Keep calm and keep going

Semi-retirement coupled with an inability to push away from the table = some weight gain. And by some I mean 35 pounds worth--yikes. Confession: Despite being pretty active, my eating habits are, and always have been, horrible. So, here to learn some mad skillz about coping with stress, portion sizes and discovering why I have to have 3 cookies instead of just one. Physical and mental, baby, it's all tied up in one big bag.

My Goals:
1. Eat cleaner.
2. Run a half-marathon
3. Exercise without injury.
4. Utilize portion sizes, measurement, CICO method.
5. Healthy BMI range
6. Lose a pound a week, roughly.

My Program:
So far I make a half-hearted attempt to run 2-3 times per week. Yeah, that has to change:
1. Run/walk 3 times per week according to schedule. Speed workouts.
--1st timed mile: 10:44 (7/5/14)
--2nd timed mile: 11:42 (7/20/14)
--3rd timed mile: 10:56
(7/22/2014)
--4th timed mile:
2. Incorporate strength workouts.
3. Bicycle as much as possible this summer.
4. Go OUTSIDE and HAVE FUN!

Personal Information:
--The Mr. and I have been married for 22 years this June. We live on a small farm of 16 acres and plant the usual soybeans/corn. Fun but a lot of work.
--30 year RN (22 in the Air Force), now retired and working for the local park conservancy. Oh gosh, that makes me feel old. Woo-hoo anyway!

thanks for adding me as a friend. I have added you, too, so that we can cheer each other on. I am about one month away from my half marathon and feeling good about it. I am totally with you on the exercising but not so good eating thing. I have had to learn how to eat well as I get older. It's just not fair that you can eat whatever you want when young and not gain weight. Then as you age your body needs fewer calories, so you have to exercise more and eat better just to maintain. And if, like me, you wait until you've put some pounds on to realize this, it's a whole lot more work to get pounds off than when you were younger. Ugh!
