120 lbs gone!! IT'S ALL ABOUT MAINTENANCE...GETTING THERE AND STAYING THERE!! :)

Hello everybody..My name is Carol and welcome to my Sparkpage! What a journey it has been!! On March 2, 2010 I weighed 240+ lbs. I found myself at 55 years of age lying in CCU in a hospital. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, & was stressed to the max. Luckily my heart was okay, but my cardiologist questioned where I would be in 10 years if I didn't drastically change my life!! Upon my release, I decided it was time to take control of my life. I immediately started on a journey ...
I immediately started on a journey to develop a healthy lifestyle, & I was determined nothing was going to stop me from reaching my goal!! I started walking for exercise, & watching what I ate by counting calories and trying to eat a healthy, balanced diet. All went well & by August 2010, I had lost a total of 35 lbs....but something seemed to be missing! While I had the support of family & friends, for the most part I felt that I was alone on my journey. That is until my doctor recommended I check out the website called Sparkpeople.com!! It changed my life!! Never before had I experienced the support & resources that I have found here. 10 months after joining Sparks, in April of 2011, I met my ultimate goal. . I have reached my goal weight and now have a normal BMI. My blood pressure is normal, and cholesterol has been lowered! I continued into the maintenance phase of my journey with my feet firmly planted in Sparkpeople, & with all my wonderful Sparkfriends at my side!! I have successfully maintained my weight loss for over 2 years!! For me this is probably the most important and difficult part of my journey! I now must break the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting that I have dealt with most of my adult life! This time, with the help of Sparkpeople, I will win the battle! 120 lbs later.... GOODBYE YO-YO DIETER....you are OUTTA HERE!! Thank you sparkpeople for giving me my life back!!

Personal Information:
I'm a 58 year old female from America's heartland--Kansas. I have been employed in the aircraft industry for the past 21 years. Always an animal lover I am the proud mama to a Chug, & 2 Japanese Chins. I have no children, am not married, but have a partner who I have been with for the
past 28 years.

Other Information:
This is how I Ifound Spark people. I woke up in a hospital bed in CCU in March of 2010, hospitilized for chest pains. I weighed 230+lbs, had high cholesteral & high blood pressure. Luckily my heart was okay & I was diagnosed with stress which caused the chest pains. My doctors advised me to lose weight & get active. Being in CCU was the most humiliating experience of my life.. You don't put a 240 lb person on a bed pan with good results!! I was determined to do whatever it took to prevent ending up in that place again. Upon being released from the hospital I immediately started walking for exercise & watching my calories, sodium, & fat intake. At a doctors appointment in August 2010 I had lost 40 lbs, but it was hard sustaining the enthusiasm & determination I had upon my initial release from the hospital. My Dr. told me about the web site for Spark people & here I am. I look forward to a long wonderful relationship with Spark people!!

Courage is very important. Like a muscle, it is strengthened by use. A very dear SparkFriend this week posted on our Recovering Alcoholics team thread, Sobriety Blessings, this incredible reflection, "Sobriety has given me the courage to do the right thing in spire of my fear."

In my blog, Strength Training Builds More Than Muscle, I focused on having the courage to change our lifestyle and to reach our goals, our heart's desires.

Success is not final.
Failure is not fatal.
It is the courage to continue that counts.

Blessings today and always! emoticon

Courage is fear that has said its prayers!

Hi Carol,
I'm finally getting back on my workout schedule after my husband's death last year. It has been a trying time for me. But with the grace of God, I know I will continue to get through this. I'm glad to see you are still maintaining your weight. Your persistence keeps me motivated.

Thanks for being a true Spark friend!

I completed Steps Four and Five this week with my sponsor. I am a grateful recovering alcoholic. This has been a soul searching and incredibly empowering week for me. I just want to share something from my AA meeting today:

" Higher Power take my will and my life. Guide me in my recovery.
Show me how to live. "

One incredible new team member of Recovering Alcoholics reminded me how important it is to revisit Step One each and every day. I do this and also revisit daily Steps Two and Three also. The inspirational thought I have shared speaks to Step Three:

Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of
God as we understood Him.

The serenity which floods my soul is indescribable, but I know you have experienced this and can share in the joy of living sober!

Blessings and a BIG emoticon
