Damaged Knee Won't Stop Me!
I'm coming up on one year since my knee reconstruction surgery following an injury in early 2012. After graduating from physical therapy, I began the first of several attempts to complete the BeachBody Insanity workout program, always getting stuck in Week Three. I am currently on my third attempt at Insanity, and I'm happy to report I pushed through the Week Three Wall! On April 15, 2013, I began the Whole30 Challenge after my "gut" was literally telling me something was off! At first, I thought it was just a bug, but it has lingered for weeks. I'm thinking I may have a sensitivity/intolerance to something, but I'm not sure what. I'm eating a whole foods based diet (fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, nuts/seeds, and healthy oils like olive and coconut) and temporarily eliminating grains, dairy, and legumes to see if my body recovers. Another major life change: I once read somewhere that if you visualized tying the end of a string to one part of your body and the other end to something you own, and did that for ALL of your possessions, would you feel trapped by your own stuff? This includes every fork, every sock, every DVD, every magnet on your fridge, every travel souvenir, every bottle of nail polish, etc. This really resonated with me and I have started the process of selling, donating, or recycling everything I own that I don't need. I also plan to be more mindful of what I do choose to spend money on from this point forward. This will definitely help my finances, help preserve resources, and help reduce waste. Here's to freedom from a damaged body and a cluttered lifestyle!

My Goals:
- Complete the Beachbody Insanity program - Complete the Whole30 Challenge - Reach a size 6 before summer (currently a size 10-12) - Eat something green every day. Green gummy bears don't count! - Create a more balanced budget of my finances to closely monitor excessive spending and increase long-term savings - Declutter my life by selling or donating my excess possessions - Be more mindful of what I do buy. Is it a want or a need? What resources went into making it? Was it made locally? Is it build to last? Can I buy it secondhand?
My Program:
I do the Beachbody Insanity workout several times per week. I also now do yoga for about 30 minutes nearly every day.

Other Information:
Quality and flavor of foods are very important to me. I do not eat at chain restaurants or fast food joints. If food tastes the same everywhere, it's not an experience! I grow some of my own food in my small backyard during the summer. I cook most meals from scratch. Recently, I roasted a whole chicken, used the carcass to make stock, and used the stock to make risotto. Maximum flavor, minimal waste. I vote with my dollars, and prefer to support local farmers and establishments over "organic" products shipped from halfway around the world. The idea of organic is good, but if I'm also paying for fossil fuels to transport those products to me, is that really better than buying from the nearby family farm that makes good produce but can't afford the USDA Organic label?
