Obesity is not benign!

I got the doctor's orders to lose weight on my 62nd birthday (May 25,2008). Since then, I have lost 122 lbs. But the hardest part is right ahead of me. I have lost and gained those pounds over and over. But my attitude is still positive and I am loving the exercises and I really want this time to FINALLY succeed. Recently I have hired a personal trainer and she pushes me to do more and I love it. I went to the Spark Convention in Cincinatti and it really gave me a big boost.

My Goals:
to build a lifelong habit of healthy living.
My ultimate goal is to be happy with the person I am and it includes in part my appearance, my attitude and my personality.

My Program:
I started this journey on my birthday ( may 25)
I am not doing anything so weird or extreme. I exercise 30 minutes or more every day. That can be swimming, walking, or exercising at the gym. When I had enough strength to do more, I added a personal trainer to advise me.

Personal Information:
My name is Mary Gardiner and i live in the outer suburbs of Virginia in Fairfax.
I am an accountant and I probably will work til I reach 70 in 7 years.
I am a decent bridge player and swimmer.
I read everything I get my hands on and even listen to books on tape when doing the daily commute.

Other Information:
I love Sparkpeople! It is so great to have companions together on the journey.

Thank-you for the Spark you gave me today. I am 60 yrs young and live in Maryland not far from you, I hope that does a mental thing for me. lol I too want to be able to be this kind of spark for others as I enjoy my new body. This past week has been lousy for me due to being sick with ear trouble. Thanks for the jolt! emoticon emoticon , Lisa

Wow! You look fantastic! Congratulations on your huge weight loss. What a wonderful opportunity to actually go to a Spark Convention and meet Coach Nicole. That has to be a great motivator and reward. Love the picture of you and Nicole. I'd definitely hang that picture somewhere where you see see it everyday and have the constant visual reminder of how far you've come. You have set a great example for those of us who try to make up excuses when it comes to losing weight and get healthier. You have shown that you are never too old to make a change. Most of us have had these bad eating habits for years and it's so hard to change but if you can do it, so can we! By making yourself healthier and getting fit, not only do you look better and feel better but I'm sure you body is thanking you for adding years to your life. Good for you. Keep up the fantastic work!
