I have been on SparkPeople since June of this year. Almost four months. It has been quite a learning experience! I have gone from physical therapy for ten minutes to now 55 minutes of chair exercise. I have learned how to blog and to track food and exercise. Just learning how to read the site was an accomplishment. However, most of all, I have made many Sparkfriends. So much positive support and caring comments!! Joining SparkPeople was the best decision I could have made.

So much positive support and caring comments!! Joining SparkPeople was the best decision I could have made.

I am 62 (soon 63). I have diabetes, neuropathy, retinopathy, kidney disease, heart failure and cirrhosis of the liver. I have balance problems and fall, quite a lot actually. I had become my diseases. I had given up my horse riding, my gardens and other enjoyments.

Now, though I am still in my wheel chair, I have been moving more. Spending more time with my daughters and my grandchildren. They are such a pleasure in my life.

As I continue on this journey, I have regained some time in my garden, continued my quilting, sewing, knitting and crafts. I have begun voluntary simplicity. Going through my home and removing all the collections of 'things' that I really have no use for. As a result, I am constantly going through 'tubs'. Passing on to my children items that they would have gotten anyway. It is lifting a burden of possessions from my back.

I have found my spirit again and relish the time I am able to spend on Scriptures. My faith has been renewed and I am moving forward.

Alice,

You haven't done your blog and I haven't seen you on the team. Is everything okay? Let me know.

"It is important to then make a conscious effort to transform your thoughts. It may be true that you often cannot overcome your food cravings or stick to your diet.

"However, if there are times when you are able to stand strong, then FOCUS ON THOSE MOMENTS AND CELEBRATE THE TRIUMPHS. Maybe you put less sugar in your coffee today and said no to a second slice of pizza.

"Giving attention to the positive things will help to create greater self esteem and motivation to continue with your weight loss efforts."

Persist

The only way to fail is to give up. Whatever comes, whatever happens, keep going.

Fix your eyes on the goal, and persist. Your vision, your commitment, and your actions will take you there.

When you can make great big strides, make them. When you can take only small steps, take them.

See every moment as the opportunity that it is. When the wind is at your back, keep going, and when the wind is blowing against you, keep going.

Make good and effective use of whatever you encounter. Tap into the positive value that is always there.

Know precisely where you wish to go and why. Keep going, and you are there.

(Ralph Marston)

"How would your life be different if . . . You were conscious about the food you ate, the people you surround yourself with, and the media you watch, listen to, or read? Let today be the day . . . You pay attention to what you feed your mind your body, and your life. Create a nourishing environment conducive to your growth and well-being today."
