2011 is going to be MY year!

2010 was fabulous. I had some wonderful experiences, overcame challenges, pushed myself to new levels of fitness. I did what I thought was impossible. For the first time in my life, I felt comfortable and happy being me.

2011 is going to be even better! I will push myself and my limits. I will pound the pavement harder, I will focus on healthy eating and I will learn to love what I see in the mirror every day. And I will not quit. Because ...
2011 is going to be MY year!

2011 race schedule (so far):

March 20: Columbia Tower stairclimb (69 flights of stairs)- DONE in 19 minutes!
June 11: Furry 5K- DONE in 33 minutes!
July 16: Warrior Dash 5K (obstacle courses and mud!)- DONE 7/16
October 23: UW Dawg Dash
November 12: Pineapple 5K

Being active has never been a problem for me. I was an athlete throughout my childhood and up until college, when I essentially stopped working out.

I've always had an unhealthy relationship with food, however, and watching the scale go up and down has been both frustrating and motivating. I reached my highest weight in 2005 (245lbs at 5'9), but it took me two and a half years before I actively started to do something about it. I joined weight watchers and lost 30+lbs, which inspired me to commit to my own health. Two years later, I'm still here, fighting the good fight.

In the last 8 months (beginning in 2010), I've made fitness a major priority in my life. While my weight is still not where I'd like it to be, I am proud to say I am in the best shape of my life thanks to SparkPeople. I ran my first 5k this Summer (this coming from a chroninc non-runner) and work out 6 days/week, including 3 days of running. And, I actually like it. Who knew?!

Up next? Scale progress, and P90X.

Bring it on!

And I feel better every day!

UPDATE: I dislocated my ankle in early August 2010, and was unable to be active for approximately 8 weeks. I'm just getting back into my activity now (Late Sept) but I'm going to make progess in the next few months and finish the year strong! Whoop whoop!
