Surgery Challenges

I am a college sophomore majoring in philosophy and minoring in dance. I am also a vegan, (no animal products of any kind.) I love reading, animals, ballet, art, music, classic films, performing, friends and family. (My idol, classic film star Vivien Leigh, is pictured.)

I've danced pretty much my whole life, and now have been presented with a new challenge of staying healthy during the next 5 months during which I will be immobile. I am staggering arthroscopic surgeries on both ...

I've danced pretty much my whole life, and now have been presented with a new challenge of staying healthy during the next 5 months during which I will be immobile. I am staggering arthroscopic surgeries on both of my hips to relieve injuries to the cartilage, and have put on about 5lbs. in the past few months because I can't exercise as much as I used to. The other 5lbs. I want to lose is because I know I will (and already do) have less muscle mass relative to fat. Also, I am transferring from my CC to a 4yr college this fall, and will be living away from home for the first time. I am committed to not gaining the freshman fifteen!

Thank you for adding me as a friend. I am 42 now but I had an accident when I was 22, my graduation year, and have had 20 years of living with problems and pain. I've had the arthroscopies done on both ankles and I staggered them too because I couldn't bear to be completely immobilised. I am very determined and very independent and at times this hasn't helped because I've expected too much, too soon and this leads to disappointment, negative feelings, comfort eating and you can imagine the rest. All I'm saying is take advice given to you by your medical team, be realistic and patient with yourself and you'll be fine!

Welcome to the Spark Power! I am one of the team leader and we are so excited that you decided to join us. We are here to keep everyone motivated. The best motivation on spark is posting, asking questions, finding new friends that is in this together. We are all on this journey of a healthy live style, so your not alone in this. People need someone to believe in them. They need to know that if they take that first step out of their comfort zone, someone will be supporting them all the way. With small words of encouragement, with just a little extra time, that someone could be you. In some cases, others may just be unaware of their true abilities and potential. This is what our team is about. So welcome aboard the team!

If you haven’t already come and introduced yourself to the team please do. This is a great way to get to know the other team member and we also get to know you as well.
If there is any questions or concerns please let me know or one of the other leaders.

Everyone one tease’s me about my dance I do if someone does well so if you see it you know that I have gotten excited! So I am sure excited you’re a part of the team.
