I am a retired Speech Pathologist, who does contract therapy a couple of hours a week with preschoolers. Two weeks after I retired, Luis, my only child died. I have been working through my grief journey ever since with the suppport of my faith in God, family, friends, and my incredible support groups. I have been incorporating exercise into my daily life for the past 14 months to have more energy to enjoy life! I still struggle daily to get out of bed. I have been pursuing my love of art, ...

I have been working through my grief journey ever since with the suppport of my faith in God, family, friends, and my incredible support groups. I have been incorporating exercise into my daily life for the past 14 months to have more energy to enjoy life! I still struggle daily to get out of bed. I have been pursuing my love of art, especially watercolor and participating in the guardian ad litem program in my state of Florida, which monitors the safety and welfare of foster children. My husband volunteers with the Meals on Wheels program, so I sometimes send baked goods to share with the seniors who come to the center. This helps satisfy my love of baking, but I don't gain the calories from the baking! I enjoy reading, gardening, swimming in my pool, and spending time with family (to include four gatos!) and friends.

My Goals:
Short term goals:
1. Lose 5-10 pounds during the winter challenge
2. Eat vegetarian one day a week
3. Have a protein "green" smoothie daily.

Long term goals:
1. Weigh between 150-160 pounds
2. Have a normal HDL.



My Program:
I am going to incorporate using my Pilates reformer and Pilates cardio along with resistance bands, free weights, kettle bells and swimming to achieve my fitness goals. I will utilize various cookbooks and other healthy resources to cook healthy and appetizing meals.

Being around children as often as I am has been a true learning experience. I may not be a young woman, however, I am finding out many things from this beautiful little people.

Life is not boring to me, it is not mundane. It is full of wonder, pleasing smells, awesome colors, beautiful creatures, and breathtaking moments. Children know how to enjoy and appreciate life.

This is what I have learn from children: I think there is a secret to enjoying life more that most people overlook. A hidden way to feel so much more full every single day and it hides in its deceptive simplicity. It’s this: Love every single living thing you find and see them all through wondering eyes. Appreciate the details, notice the colors and textures and imagine you are seeing it for the very first time. See things as new.

What wonderful beauty is all around us.
