This is me!!! I LOVE hockey!
My grandson on his 2nd birthday. April 2011
My granddaughter at 5 months old.
January 1, 2011 --- I like that 1/1/11!
During the last half of 2010, my focus was not exactly where it should have been and I went off track. It's so easy when you've had a life-long problem with food.
My focus took a change when I partially tore my MCL during a hockey game last July. I had to be off the ice for 8 weeks! I was devastated by this as I so enjoy playing hockey. This was when my eating patterns changed and I got off track. I was upset and I ate whatever I wanted. I never was able to get back on that path to eating right. I since have gained back more than I EVER wanted. Well, I'm ready to get back in the game! I'm still playing hockey and loving every minute of it! Now I need to love me more and get back into the game of health. Life does have it's ups and downs but I just wish this wasn't so hard for me. I often ask myself why I can't have the control that others do? It takes practice and I guess with more practice, you get better and better. I'm trying to realize my weaknesses and learn how to deal with them. So, with a new year, comes another beginning......one where I will practice and score those goals along the way! With Sparkpeople on my team, I have the strategies I need to WIN!
It's been 6 months since I've written my introduction, so I suppose it is time for an update.
I'm happy to say, that I have "SCORED" my original goal of 145 pounds! I never thought I'd be able to accomplish this, but I have. I honestly do not ever remember weighing under 151 pounds.
I could not have done this without Sparkpeople! This site, along with all my Spark Buddies and Spark Teams have given me the incentive I needed to get where I am today. Thank you so much to everyone!!!!
My other incentive has definitely been playing ice hockey. I am currently playing on two women's teams including one league team. I also play with two pick-up groups. I am on the ice about 4 days a week and will be participating in a puck handling/skills clinic this summer. Ice hockey is an activity that has become my passion. This has encouraged me to eat well, get fit and stay healthy so that I can play as well as I can and for as long as my body will allow. Find an activity you are passionate about and that will give you the motivation to continue. How can you continue something that you do not like?
Where do I go from here? I'm going where my body takes me. I have not set a new goal weight for myself (although this page forced me to before saving my changes), but will continue to track my calories and stay within the allotted range. If I lose more weight, then fine, I'll certainly take it! I try to eat whole foods and stay away from most processed items. I read ingredient labels carefully staying away from artificial sweeteners, colors and flavors, high fructose corn syrup, ingredients I can't read, try to eat whole grains and have to have my chocolate. I'm not perfect and don't expect to be. There are days that I won't care, but that's okay. I think I've learned to get back on track......I hope! The old me is still within and like an alcoholic, I need to always be aware of that.
I've learned so much on this journey and I think I'm beginning to understand who I really am. It's been a time of self-discovery. You MUST do this for yourself--no one else. I tried to lose weight before for my daughter's wedding and couldn't do it. You have to want to do this and not because someone else wants you to. Make it a game, make it an obsession, make it your passion, but most importantly, make it your life and you will succeed too!
My name is Claire and I've been overweight most of my life. I can gain and lose the same 50 pounds and I have had enough! I want this time to be the last. I've lost about 40 pounds over this past year and have about another 20 more to go. I've discovered that I don't like exercise like walking on a treadmill, lifting weights or doing sit-ups. It's boring!!! I needed something that I could be passionate about and I've discovered that my passion is ice skating! I have always enjoyed skating as a child and played ice hockey until the age of 16. I was on one of the first girls' hockey teams in the area! I skated some as my children grew up but didn't skate regularly. For the past two years, I have rediscovered skating again. As of September 2009, I now play on two women's hockey teams and I love it!! This has given me the incentive to get fit so that I can try to keep up with the 20 year olds! (Notice I said TRY.........) Find something you are passionate about and you will be on your way to a better and healthier you too!
1. Lose these last extra pounds and learn to stay within a particular range and maintain.
2. To be healthy, happy and fit.
3. To live life the best that I can.
4. To have a positive attitude and outlook on life.
5. Organize my life and get rid of unnecessary "stuff"
6. Eat chocolate once a day!
1. Use the calorie tracker to stay within my range.
2. Play ice hockey or skate 3-4 times per week.
3. Participate in other physical activities such as snowshoeing , cross-country skiing, pickleball, walking, yardwork as often as possible.
4. Declutter, organize and simplify my life.
5. Put "eat chocolate" at the top of my list of things to do each day. That way, at least I'll get one thing done!
I am a Mom to 3 wonderful children who have all grown up so fast! I also became a grandmother last year. My grandson is such a joy and makes me smile all the time!
I'm a pretty independent person and like to learn to do things myself. I'm curious about how things work and fix things when I can.
I am an elementary art teacher. Thus my name: artchr. I particularly enjoy drawing, pen and ink, prismacolors and pastels. I also like to work with wood. I've been considering doing something with photography lately as I have really enjoyed this art form. I like to capture moments in my grandson's life but also like unusal aspects and angles of objects and nature. Maine is a wonderful place to photograph!
