15. Our wedding day - May 2, 2011
This was voted the favorite of many who know me; perhaps because I look this happy so often!
My Dad who lives with us, Oliver S. Hatton - 97 and counting
I've been heavy most of my life. At 58 years old (2005), I finally had enough of the roller coaster and developed my own plan to lose the weight. I found Sparkpeople near the end of my successful endeavor. Because I was at and maintaining my goal weight, I didn't do a lot of the activities offered but I still enjoyed the web site and gleaned a lot of helpful information from it.
I'm thankful the site is here. I quit counting calories while I was caring for my belated husband during March through August 18 of 2009. I was actually maintaining or losing weight during that time. I've come back here time and again for encouragement when I put on a pound or two. Counting calories became sporadic during my recent major transitions, but I'm now back on track.
On September 29, 2010 I moved to Fox Run - a premier retirement community - with Dad and my new husband, Bill. We are all very happy here sharing the same apartment with our three cats. We enjoy all the activities that Fox Run has to offer us - chorus, bell choir, woodshop, hobbies, travel, movies, dinner out every night at any of four wonderful restuarants on campus, exercising in a nicely equipped work out room and pool, and too many other clubs and groups to mention. Everything can be reached by foot in the comfort of climate controlled glass enclosed walkways that link all the buildings.
For the first time in my life, I have discovered that I love to exercise. I'm building muscle and strength as I train for the triathalon in the 2012 Senior Olympics.
God is so Good!
I would like to maintain my weight loss of over 69 pounds and help others to achieve the same.
I lost my weight by following a program I wrote myself titled "AcCounting Calories". It uses a combination of step down in calorie consumption and calorie averaging by the week. Since the overview was too long for this space, I entered it as a blog on 9-27-08. My e-mail address is included. I'm always happy to share dialogue and questions about my concept.
I live in Novi, MI at Fox Run - an active retirement community with a continuing care option. Warren (died 8-18-2009) and I bore two children. Our daughter, Caryn, is a graduate of Alma College and the mother of our four Granddaughters. Our son, Justin, is a graduate of CCS and a tattoo artist of local renown. He has practiced his craft on me in the form of a nose stud, a tattoo of a heart with Warren's initials on my lower left back, a large rose on my right forearm, and a left deltoid cover of a lighthouse and sailboat framed by roses and sky. I love them all (the kids as well as the tattoo and stud).
Warren and I ran our own legal tax business from our home so our time was busy but flexible. We moved from an office in Birmingham to our home in 1986 and really enjoyed the convenience and the short commute for 22 years. Having been in business for about 37 years total, our clientelle was very large and packed with equipment. Moving has been difficult.
I love God, Family, Friends, Country, and our three cats - probably in that order - closely followed by chocolate and peanut butter.
I am into ecology, recycling, saving the planet, eco gardening, arts and crafts, music and writing.

Exciting about the triathlon. When is it in 2012 and how are you doing getting ready for it? My son is signed up for a triathlon relay. He is doing the running leg of it. Just checking in on you to see how you are.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. The quietness and crispness of the air makes me love Autumn. The climate is superb here too. The heavy rains have not started yet and there is no pollen to irritate my sinuses. Also we get some pretty spectacular foliage. Some years rival Maine's Fall leaves. Now that the driveway is fixed and I have four wheel drive, I might even enjoy the winter snows this year. Nothing better than a warm book, cup of green tea and a cozy blanket.
