I stepped on the scale today, that I had been easily avoiding for the last three months because I had loaned it to my office, and opting out of the weekly weigh-in. To my horror, but not really surprise, I weighed exactly what I weighed when I first started Spark People in... 2010?
Why? In a nutshell, because I stopped caring. I no longer put an emphasis on my own health. Sure, I've got a good excuse: my mom passed away on December 24, 2011, and it's been nothing but hard work, emotional chaos, devistated household, and back pain since then. But I know that I would've been much more effective in handling all of that if I'd stuck with my healthy habits -- of eating right, doing moderate strength training, running and riding my bike.
So I'm starting over. Forgiving myself for the last six months of poor choices, and trying to reprioritize my time to put my health a lot closer to the top of the list. Although I hadn't come anywhere near my goal weight before my world turned upside down, I felt great and looked so much better than before; than now. I want that back, and it's time to lace up my tennies and go for it!
In addition to a weight loss goal, I want to be strong and healthy enough to keep up with my kids, to have the energy and stamina to do what needs to be done AND then enjoy fun things after the chores are done! Health is one component, but I am trying to regain control over many areas of my life, and to start living with purpose rather than hanging on and just surviving day to day.
Near the end of 2009, I picked up the idea (can't remember the source) of treating healthy lifestyle changes as a hobby. As a naturally obsessive type, that translates into lots of reading, podcasts, discussion, and participation in eating healthy foods, getting exercise, and putting more thought into goals and what I want from life.
Mom to four beautiful children, ages ranging from 18 years to 4 years. Married to my wonderful husband since 2004, who is working hard at making his locksmith business a success. I work full-time outside the home; current hobbies seem to be laundry and sorting through "treasures" from my mom's estate, but I think I remember a day when they were reading, scrapbooking, sewing, crochet, embroidery, painting, jewelry making, etc. :)

Thank you for your good wishes, DVT is Deep Vein Thrombosis, which is clots of blood in the legs and if they get to the heart or lungs, are usually instant death, luckily it was caught in time and I am now on blood thinning drugs to get rid of them.

Welcome back, I too have just started again seriously, I have just had a Deep Vein Thrombosis, so I need to get myself sorted out.

I just saw that you are doing the Disney 1/2 marathon! That is soooo great. Its on one of my list of things to do. Please let me know how you do. I hope you have a lot of fun!
