I'm Arlene. I joined this website in early 2008, after recovering from emergency surgery for diverticulitus and perforated colon, I was very sick. I lost 30 lbs, during this illness and surgery. I was dertermined to keep it off. Sooo I joined a gym and sparkpeople. I was on my way to a healthier lifestyle, working out and watching what I ate. Sometime in August, I realized even though I was losing weight, my pants were getting tighter!?! I started measuring my waist and found the more I worked ...
I'm Arlene. I joined this website in early 2008, after recovering from emergency surgery for diverticulitus and perforated colon, I was very sick. I lost 30 lbs, during this illness and surgery. I was dertermined to keep it off. Sooo I joined a gym and sparkpeople. I was on my way to a healthier lifestyle, working out and watching what I ate. Sometime in August, I realized even though I was losing weight, my pants were getting tighter!?! I started measuring my waist and found the more I worked out the bigger my waist got! I went back to doc and found that I had two incesional hernia's (doc called them alien babies) from the prior surgeries and had to have them repaired. I had repair on December 17, 2008 and I'm feeling good (lost another 7 pounds in hospital) but, my doc has restricted my workouts. For the next six months I can only walk and do mild yoga. No strength training, NO AB work at all! Nothing strenous! So I have lost about 40lbs in the last two years and above all want to keep it off!! I would like to lose about 10 to 20 more pounds and I'm really trying hard.

Arlene, just wanted to thank you for giving me hope. I found you on the Digestive Disorders thread and read your story. I have just been diagnosed with diverticulitis with and abscess that was drained last week. Very painful. Don't know how you did it, but reading all you went thru made my pain seem small compared to what you've gone thru. I am so glad that you are feeling so much better and am looking forward to feeling better myself.
Good luck with your journey. You look great! What a hard way for us to lose weight LOL!!
