I'm a full-time working Mom, of two exceptional young men, whose major form of exercise was running upstairs for the forgotten socks. I joined SparkPeople because I NEED to make time for more sustained fitness. It's been an on again, off again thang in the time I've been on SparkPeople.

I was really gung-ho about walking when I started, which lasted until the weather turned bad. In the spring of 2010 I made the mistake of trying to run (my knees and feet didn't do well with the extra impact). The family spent the summer doing TKD, thanks to a "free" membership at a local black-belt factory, but we chose not to continue at their exorbitant prices once our initial term expired. I spent the fall and winter of 2010 back to another favorite activity courtesy of my younger son, who decided to learn to skate. I spent the last year or so of grad-school on the ice 4-6 hours a week learning to figure skate as an adult. I got bored and jealous standing on the sidelines, and signed myself up to skate too. But his interests shifted, and I spent Spring 2011 on the sidelines watching my older son running track and the younger playing Little League baseball.

In the fall of 2011, my younger son said "Mom, I want to try Karate again" so we went out and found a new Dojo. I once again got too jealous sitting on the sidelines, so have started training in Okinawa Kenpo alongside my son. Sensei is letting me and another one of the Dads tag along at the kids class, which is wonderful, since I just couldn't swing time outside of work and kids to get to an exercise class on my own.

Thank you so much the the kind words on my blog. I "never" expected my simple story would touch so many people. What a wonderful reminder that Spark is not just an Internet group, but also a community of friends.

Hi Ari,

I'm not back - not really. I am just logging my weight and exercise, but just don't have the time to chat with friends. My apologies. Glad you're still singing!

Cheers,
Heidi

Nice to meet someone who knows fandom. I gafiate from time to time, mostly because I can't afford to go to cons, but my friend Blind Lemming Chiffon sometimes pays my way to a con or I get an invitation from the concom. I have a lot of filkish stuff, but mostly play straight folk or folk-influenced or just give up and write my own LOL.
