An Arctic Journey

I am a PhD student striving to offset the many hours I spend sitting at the lab bench with an active lifestyle. Getting outside during the loooonnnggg days of summer in the sub-arctic is definitely not a problem...it's the oh-so-short (sometimes non-existent) daylight hours at 20 to 40 below zero in the winter that present the true challenge!

My Goals:
My main goal is to get my physical self to a point where it is not limiting my inner self. I would like to be able to ski, skate, and sled down huge hills in the winter without worrying about whether I can make it!

My Program:
I am currently following the SparkPeople program and I am adding exercise back into my life by going to my college's rec center and generally trying to lead a more active lifestyle.

Personal Information:
I live in Fairbanks Alaska and am a graduate school student in anthropology. I really love it up here but managed to gain a lot of weight after we first moved here from Florida. Going from being able to walk out the door with no prep to needing to prep for about 20 minutes to get out the door really makes a difference.

Thank you for the spa visit goodie. I'm so glad your surgery went well and you are moving again. I'm hoping that this will be DH's last surgery for a long time. Four surgeries for one injury in a year is a lot. We're looking forward to an uneventful year in 2013.

Thank you so much, ARCTICALLIE, for commenting at my page. emoticon

You are incredibly brave to move from Florida to Fairbanks! You're also brave to be doing "clean eating". I'm not anywhere near into giving up that many foods that I like.

The ADD sure does cause a lot of problems with doing things consistently. LOL

How awesome that you are working on a graduate degree! My hubby has two masters and a doctorate. I have an associates. emoticon Ah well.

Thanks again! emoticon

I'm doing a webinar tomorrow. I thought I had signed up for the November date, but got a reminder email yesterday that I'm actually doing it tomorrow. Argh! Nothing like throwing together a 25 slide presentation full of stuff I haven't looked at in nearly a year......

Overall it is going well. I'm actually not eating enough. I just need to start packing more mini-meals/snacks for work but I'm always running late:) I can tell you I'm generally not hungry and my cravings for fatty/salty/sweet foods is a lot less!
