My name is April. At the age of 53 I am trying to turn my life and health around by making healthy lifestyle changes. I am from North Carolina (the flatlands) closer to the coast. I think our coastal lands are beautiful, but I really love our mountains here in our state, and just walking the scenic nature trails! The mountains of North Carolina are often called "God's Country." Here in God's Country are the "Land of the Waterfalls." I love mountain scenery and waterfalls better than anything I know of and I love climbing the trails to see them. I am obese, have diabetes and osteoarthritis, and I do not intend to let this keep me from doing what I love!

God's Country

As I sit here on the side of this mountain
and I see all this beauty before me,
the majesty of the trees are surrounding me,
I can hear the birds singing their tunes
and I see a deer or two, frolicking on their way,
while I see a bear cub at play
with mommy on its way.

I see a beautiful waterfall
falling into a small stream
as a rainbow shines its beams,
into the mist I see wild horses
stop for a drink.

Oh such radiance, peacefulness and purity
there is in nature,
I just have to wonder and think.
If there was no God,
then where did all this beauty come from?
Can we believe that maybe this is a little part of heaven?
Or is it just a dream?
This place is nothing that I've ever seen!

God's Country I will call this place,
for I believe that heaven does exist
and the Lord our God is giving us a piece of it,
all we have to do is take a moment and find these places,
and make it a place all our own.
A place where serenity flows,
a place we call home.

    It's not always easy to compare apples to oranges when it comes to carbs.
