I did not realize it when it was happening, but one day I realized I had gained 20 pounds or so. I weighed 145 for my wedding on 6/10/06. In late 2007 around Christmas time I weighed 170. What happened? Why didn't I notice this?!

So I started to exercise more and try and eat better. Did the Fat Resistance Diet (you basically eat all fresh foods and tons of veggies). Honestly this was not a realistic long-term change for me due to the amount of chopping of veggies/cooking/planning ahead. At that time, I was working full time and going to school at night.

I still like to experiment with different eating plans, mostly to try different recipes. I do enjoy cooking and eating freshly prepared food. I try not to eat things out of a box.

After self-reflection, I realize that part of my problem and how I gained 20 pounds was eating at night due to loneliness and boredom. My husband now works evenings, so I am still alone after work. I would have dinner, then about an hour later have a salty-snack. Then I would need something sweet. Then sometimes I'd have another snack. Sometimes I would have some wine and have even more snacks.

Now that I know my weakness, I have come up with some strategies to overcome. I know that I snack when I watch tv in the evening, so I haven't been watching tv. Summertime is helping b/c I can go outside and do stuff in the garden or the yard. I also have been going in the bedroom and reading.

Finding a workout routine that I like and don't get bored with has been challenging. But with a combination of P90X, Turbo Jam, and pilates DVD workouts, I haven't gotten bored. I also got my bike out and have gone for a few rides. My dog likes to go for walks too.

I have found that some people who are heavier than I am are not very supportive of my efforts. "Be quiet - you are already skinny"
That has been hard - we all want to be healthier and be happy with our body and self-image. Just because I am already a certain size does not mean I am happy with my body and self-image.

Gaining 20 pounds in 1.5 years was not healthy. My eating habits of were not healthy. We should all be supportive of each other in our efforts to build more healthy lifestyles no matter what our starting weight is.

My Goals:
Short-term goal - fit into my pants

Longer-term goal - 20 lbs total by October 2009

Longer long-term goal - keep 20 lbs off



My Program:
I am tracking everything that I eat.
I make sure 3/4 of my plate/meal is veggies/fruits and the rest lean protein.

I am also exercising more regularly than in the past.

I am following Naturally Thin guidelines to listen to my food voice not food noise. Also not eating anywhere but in the kitchen (except snack) and only one snack per night. When I feel like I want to eat more, I go in my room and read.

I was doing P90X but am having a hard time starting back up after going on vacation. I do not belong to a gym so everything I do will either be workout videos or now that it is nice outside, walking/biking.
