Getting ready to participate in the 2017 Spring 5% challenge Starting April 8.
These challenges keep me going. I am committed to continuing my exercising and doing my best to keep up with the weekly challenges.
I have not lost 5% yet, but have been going downward since joining these challenges.
Update on March 13, 2016
Going to do the 2016 Spring 5% Challenge starting March 26. It is an eight week commitment. My Exercise Commitment is to go to my gym 2- 3 times per week, and on other days do work in front of tv. We have bought a exercise step which is easy to work on. I am not currently doing this so I will work on it.

I tried doing this with the app on my iPad but didn't work, so trying again.
I have repicked up the Spark book and reading it. So going to sign in again with my team.
I am on the Winter 5% challenge, and hope that this time I will make progress. I started it off with sinus AND ear infections, so am slow to exercise, but working on my water.
I got a fitbit flex just after Thanksgiving and since have made it over 5000 steps everyday but 2. When you sink it with Spark People you automatically get joined up to the fitbit team.
I plan to be motivated by my Spark friends and in turn motivate them. I also plan to not give up on myself. I will make progress.
I plan to write a blog at least weekly with my progress, and set my current status more frequently. I am a busy woman, with two precious GC that I help care for, active in church, lead a weekly woman's Bible Study, and chair our Missions Committee. We are in a state of flux at church as our current Pastor is retiring at the end of February, and our Pastor Search Committee is busy praying and researching for a replacement.
I am a member of a health club, Heart at Work for people over 50. I qualify since I am 60. I will be going on Monday, Wednesday and Friday since my daughter has changed her work schedule. I also volunteer at my grandsons school.

5% Fall challenge, Cloverleaf team
what I have changed is beginning to use elliptical at gym, started with 3 minutes at level 1, resistance 1. Will increase by 1 minute increments.
I watch my 3 year old granddaughter 2 days a week, helping my DDIL adjust to life without my son due to divorce, and care of my 5 year old GS. Very involved in my church through Bible study, Missions, prayer, and nursery work. Love my local church body of believers.
Hoping this challenge will be the one that gets me going down in my weight, and increases my strength.

Starting Summer 5% weight loss challenge.
Exercise plans. Go to my gym Heart at Work at least 2 times per week. On other days workout at home doing Dumbbells, chair exercises, or bands 20 mins each day.
Drink 5 glasses of water each day and work up to 8.

I am back after over a year away. I cleaned up my friends by going to their pages and deleting any that haven't been around for over a year. I am recognizing once again how important it is for me to loose weight in order to be healthy. I may not be here every day, but will try. Glad to have Spark People in my life again. The support was greatly missed, and I do recognize my need to be a supporter to.
Update on July 14, 2013
On my way to my 6th 5% challenge, which is 5% of my weight at the start of the challenge which is July 27th. It lasts 8 weeks, and I am going to be a Beautiful Butterfly again. I may change my picture, to a different butterfly, or stay the same. My grandkids are my motivation, but also my disabled, crippled sister who I just visited, whose body is wracked with arthritis, (she is 60 - 2 years older than me), who is working hard to just be able to WALK AGAIN WITH THE AIDE OF A WALKER. If she can work through the pain, so can I.
I am eating with the Curves Complete, and doing Curves exercise at least 4 days per week. My need is to find other exercise to do on the days that I do not go to Curves. I will work on that and update it here.
Have you got your gym clothes, runners, water bottle, etc. ready to go?
I have gotten rid of foods that are not healthy for me, and I have my husband and Curves Coach to be accountable. My issues in the last challenge had to do with stress and my reactions to it. I will write up a blog about how I plan to handle stress this time around. I was supposed to loose 11.5 and actually gained half a pound from my start, but am now down 3 lbs from the start. So I have made some progress. THIS IS THE CHALLENGE, I WILL GET BELOW 200 LBS.
Update on May 2, 2013
I am going to do my 5th 5% challenge. This will be the 2013 Spring challenge. I will be a beautiful butterfly once again. In the winter challenge I was successful in loosing my 5% plus half a pound. I lost 11.5 lbs. Since I have gained 3. I will update this on Saturday May 11, the first day of the challenge with my beginning weight, the weight I need to loose. My plan is still the same, continue to work out at Curves four times per week, walk, use the Curves complete eating program, and meet with my Curves Coach one time a week. I will get weighed in there on Weds, but for the challenge I will weigh myself on Sats. I will be getting my inch measurements done each month.
I am going to add some pictures here. I had a wonderful 58th birthday with my family, and they have all been very supportive of me. I Can and WILL do this.
Update FEBRUARY 9, 2013
Taking on a new challenge in the form of 5% Winter challenge team. Goal to loose 5% of my weight. Current weight is 220. 5% is 11 lbs. I know that I can do this. I lost 8 lbs in the summer challenge. I have gained 6 lbs since the last challenge in the fall. This time I have plans. I am going to trust God to help me with this.

I haven't lost weight since January. I have decided to make some changes to change that. I joined the 10 minutes of exercise a day challenge last week. So far so good.
I joined Curves in April, and they are having a Last Queen Standing contest for the summer for those girls who come three times a week for 8 weeks. I signed up for that as well. This means that when I travel next week I will need to visit the Curves in the city I am in. (Which I did, Yeah)
And I signed up to join the 5% weight loss challenge team, which is 8 weeks, and I am working on how I am going to loose at least 11 lbs in the 8 weeks of the challenge. I know that I can do it. And I know that I will.

I live in Texas, transplanted from New England. I hate the heat, and find it difficult to exercise. I had knee replacement in 2007 and because of that also find exercise difficult. I would like to loose weight, get more energy, to keep up with my grandson, 17 months, Stryker. I have three grown children, and a marvelous husband who is very supportive.
I am working on my long term goals: to climb a mountain with my husband, to go rappelling, to walk in a 5K for some charity, to visit Israel, these are things I want to do when I have gotten healthier, that will motivate me to continue on this journey.

Fall 5% challenge Starts September 24 2016.
Go to the gym 3X per week. Increase time on recumbent bike over challenge. I am doing 30 minutes now.
Increase my steps weekly. At 5000 now. Last challenge helped me here, we linked our Fitbits to each other.
Diet - well one change is eating 5 plus fruits and vegetables each day. (Chocolate)
Eat protein several times a day.
Have healthy grains every day - even though I hate brown rice I am learning to include it. Those little packages you can buy and heat in the microwave are actually good.
Learn to drink more water, or low calorie drinks.
Take care of some medical issues.

I grew up in CT, and ME. Married my husband in Boston, moved to Cincinnati, OH, and then to Arlington, TX where we have lived since July 1, 1986.
At 61 I feel old, but want to reverse my age by loosing weight.
I want to be around to enjoy my grandchildren, now 6 and nearly 4.
