I'm 28 and had a double transplant last year. I feel better than ever despite the weight gain after surgery. I decided to finally stop my laziness and honor my donor and myself by taking care of myself like I used to; and exercising more and eating much better, even though I already ate pretty healthy, but now it has become sort of an obsession to track everything to really see what i put into my body and what I actually accomplish in a daily basis. I did accomplish a big dream of mine that I could not do prior to surgery, I HIKED in the Grand Canyon and traveled a round Arizona, it was one of my greatest accomplishments in life, now I have vowed to travel somewhere outside my state every year. After surgery I valued life and experiences that life offers even more.

My Goals:
lose the weight and maintain it. Hopefully with this change i can make my transplant last longer than expected and avoid another surgery for a long time. i hope by the time that I need another one there would be advances in how to do transplants.

My Program:
i am working out six times a week. During the week I take the route home that takes me by my gym so I have no excuses to not go. On weekends i do something fun like play tennis which I enjoy and work out at home. Really keeping a very healthy diet by cutting down on caloric intake and cutting back on unecessary foods. I reward my self with a goos savory healthy snack, or doing something different.

    Glad to see you at the kidney transplant team. I am on the transplant list and not on dialysis at this time. My wait will be up to 5 yrs. for a transplant and my antibodies are very high. I will start a renal diet this week after training. Your doing very well and losing the weight will keep you healthy and you'll feel great too. Good luck and ck in with the group for support. emoticon
