Keep Your Focus

My attention to exercise really began in college when I started cycling. To me, to be a real cyclist, I had to ride 100 miles in one day - so I did. My attention to exercise really began in college when I started cycling. To me, to be a real cyclist, I had to ride 100 miles in one day - so I did. I did that several times throughout the years and then I got bored. I discovered weight lifting and enjoyed the benefits that the weights brought me. Then I discovered running. Now, I am still not sure that I enjoy running, but I have completed 4 marathons over the years. This past year I completed my fourth marathon - only to realize that I did not lose a single pound of weight in all of that training. To look at me, most people would say I am in great shape - and physically speaking, I guess I am, but something is missing for me. I want to LOOK like an athlete. See, in my mind - throughout the years- I believed what people told me - that since I was exercising so much, I could eat and drink whatever I wanted. Well, since turning 40, I realize now that it is not true. Now I am focused on eating right, exercising to gain muscle, to build that athletic figure that I know I can be!!

Sorry to see you're having a stressful time. We all have our own ways of dealing with stress, I hope that you can find a healthy one! Meditating outside in the sunshine helps me, as do my breathing exercises. I'm convinced that daily yoga practice helps, and if I have the time, a nap.
This week I've been shoveling snow for stress relief. I'm not even shoveling a drive way or some other useful spot. I've been shoveling two back patios, that we rarely use at this time of year just to get in the hard-outdoor-exercise-stress-relief in!

Hey thanks Anne for your comments on my schedule for sleeping ....I know this is not going to be an easy habit to create and keep going..I have to change some major bad habits to get there..but I do believe it will happen...have you done all the challenges?..I'm just on the 1st stages as you prob. know..last night was terrible I kept to my sced. great..even turned a football game off to go to bed...Cardinals prob. would win..anyway..I get to bed say my prayers and wouldn't you know it my daughter comes home from work..knocking on my door...with keys in hand...ok I'm up...and bp...so I go back to rest..nothing happening..maybe I need to read like you do before going to bed..just not something too interesting..I might stay up all night reading.hahahah..anyway...I think I fell asleep somewhere around 12-1am..not good..I would love any help you have..thanks..rico emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
