There has never been a point in my adult life that I haven't been obese. I've lost weight, I've gained weight, and I've given up. As I was approaching my 30th Birthday in May 2010, something "sparked" inside me - I couldn't keep going on the path I was on. I wanted to feel better, move better and live better; and what's even more is that I felt I deserved it! I was done slowly killing myself with food and inactivity.

I started slowly making healthier food choices and starting to walk. I wanted to run but felt I was "too fat" to be a runner. I let go of that and started to run anyway. Exercise became a regular thing and I found myself wanting to do more and go further. One of my goals for 2010 was to run a 5K and I did 11/27/10. Now I want to run in more races and keep improving my time.

The biggest thing that I did differently this time, was to not focus so much on that number on the scale. Yes, I weigh in and Yes, sometimes I think I should have lost more than I did, but I don't let that number define me. I don't let it stop me from making healthy food choices and keep on exercising. The weight loss will come as long as I keep making healthy lifestyle choices.

In the past seven months I've learned so much about myself - how determined I am to be healthier, how hard I can push myself, and how strong I am. I also remembered that I love to exercise! I love all of - cardio, strength training, and stretching. I love when something feels really hard and I don't think I can do it, but with time and practice, I show myself I can. I love how it makes me feel accomplished. I don't know how I let exercise be absent from my life for so long. I do know this - it won't be absent again.

What I'm Working on for 2011:
1) Eating in a way that nourished my body
2) Continue to improve my physical fitness

4) Keep a neater house
5) Improve financial status
6) Spend more quality time with my spouse
7) Become LICSW
8) Keep working on keeping stress levels lower
9) Take time to do activities that I enjoy
10) Encourage and inspire others to set and meet their goals.





My Program:
I have 10 things I am working on in 2011. I am confident that by making small changes each month, I will live a healthy lifestyle and get to a healthy weight. Eating right and exercising are important, but I want to address the other things in life that can get in the way.

My eating plan involves staying in calorie range, at the moment 1720-2070 and eating a lot of fruits and veggies. Also making sure I drink my water and avoiding as much processed food as possible.

My exercise plan at the moment is mostly focused on half marathon training. I run 3 days a week, walk on non-running days, and aim for 2 strength training sessions a week.

I try to make sure I get enough rest by going to bed between 9:30 and 10 every night.

I am 31 years old. I've been married to my husband for 4 years and we have a four year old daughter. I work full time as a Social Worker and live in Vermont.
