I am ready to do this... for me, for my family, for my health.

I was always the fat kid through grade school and I was always the last kid to get picked for the P.E. sports teams. I always had to have my pants hemmed up, because not only was I fat, but I was short, too!!I

Then in high school, I lost the weight. (Hormones can be a wonderful thing!!) A combination of discovering boys and peer pressure caused me to change my eating habits. Unfortunately, that meant I just didn't eat much at all. Once I lost the weight, I also became more physically fit and active in sports and weight lifting.

After moving away to go to college, I had no problem keeping the weight off. Living on a student budget meant I didn't overeat. And having free access to the university gym, pool and aerobics classes, meant I stayed active.

Even after graduating, I was able to keep the weight off by having a very physically demanding job and eating minimally. Eating for me became a necessity. I would work 12 hours a day, then be on call all night. Sometimes eating wasn't as necessary as my work. Many times, all I could deal with was the emergency in front of me. Often, I would go for the entire day, eating nothing. Many days, my job would leave me so exhausted, I didn't have the energy to eat in the evening.

That all changed when I turned 35 and met my husband, who is an amazing cook and trained as a chef. I would get home from a stressful day at work to find a lovely meal prepared for me- Pure Bliss :) Eating became more of a social event for me and I discovered food could taste good. I had been a healthy weight for 20 years, (maybe due to not-so-healthy eating habits) then I got married and..... Voila, I gained 20 lbs.

Actually, the 20 lb weight gain was gradual, and of course all my own doing. I had tried here and there to lose the weight, but it proved difficult to shed. It wasn't until I turned 39 and became pregnant with our first child that the extra weight began to become life changing. I gained 60 lbs during 9 months of pregnancy!!! (Hormones can be an awful thing!!) I was lucky to have a healthy baby girl. She arrived 2 weeks early due to pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH). My blood pressure had reached 200/100!!

In the next year, I lost 40 lbs and was within 20 lbs of my pre-pregnancy weight, when surprise... daughter number two was on her way. Again, I gained the 40 lbs back and have been at this weight for 2 years now. 60-70 lbs more than I would like to be.

I want my body back!! I was 9 months pregnant at my 20 year high school reunion and had a 1 1/2 year old and two week old baby at my 40th birthday party!! I need to lose weight to be healthy for my girls. I feel so blessed to have had children late in life. They are amazing girls. But now I need "me" back, so I can be there for them.

I have found it hard to find time to exercise..... hard to find time for myself.

I am ready to do this, but I am not sure I can do it alone. I have already read so many inspirational stories... so many obstacles cleared... so many hurdles jumped!! Many SP stories make my journey look like a cakewalk :) I guess I just need that extra Spark!!

Thank you for your kind words about my dog Katie. Putting here down was so hard. I would not cry because even the doctor was crying and then I ended up with a nasty viral infection this past week and then pulled my back out...all out of grief for my little girl dog. I was very touched by your note. Thank you.

Happy Mother's Day too! I am on the mend now and should be posting more.
