Hello,

A little bit about me and my weight ups :( and downs :)

My name is Ania. My family and I (my husband and our two kids ages 5 & 6 at that time) relocated from Poland to USA twenty three years ago.
In the first three months living in USA I gained 20 lb.
Three months!
The food more processed, loaded with sugar and salt was very different to what I was use to eat in my old country. I start tasting fast food and drinking soda, something that was new to me and my family. Believe it or not when we were leaving Poland in 1993 that was only 1 (one) McDonald Restaurant recently opened in Warsaw. Warsaw was 7 hour drive away from my home. Oh well, we were perfectly fine without it.

In 1995 I start exercising little bit more, try to eat more healthy and go back to my original weight of 68kg = 150lb.

In 1998 I lost my husband in work related accident, raise my daughter and son from the ages of 10 & 11 on my own and at the same time still try to lose all those pounds. My life situation did not help. I was working at least 60 hours a week; many times to save time I was eating fast food for dinners. I was always too tired to exercise. As you can tell I was not happy.

I realized I am also not healthy when my MD prescribed me high blood pressure medication. I was devastated and VERY upset about this because high blood pressure runs in my family and my father died of stroke and heart attack at the age of 43. I was almost 44 years old at that time and my weight reached 204 lb.

Well, I decided to change this and really focus on being healthy. I went visit my daughter in college, she was study to be a register nurse, told her that I am happy because I lost 6 lb. She told me about Spark People website she learns in one of her classes. I promised I will look into that. That was the best advice she ever gave me to this day.
Becoming a Spark People member opened my eyes to see what I was doing wrong. I start cooking healthier, I even stop cooking Polish food because tell you the truth the ingredients here are differed more processed. Just portion control along allow me to see my pounds go bye bye.
Spark People allow me to see exactly how much I eat and that allows me to lose weight. After losing 30 lb I was happy and on the right track. Around my two year anniversary with Spark People I lost 38 lb so I was almost by the finish line. What is 10 lb more? Now I know what to do so I decided to try it on my own. Well I WAS WRONG!

After the first year on my own I gain 6 ponds, and by the beginning of 2014 I gained another 16 lb. I GAINED TOTAL 22 PONDS BACK. In the beginning I though gaining few ponds is okay because I did build more muscle and the inches stayed the same, no big deal. I was exercising a lot and eating healthy food. But soon enough inches were coming back too. I blamed this on menopause, but later I realized I am one to blame and to be exact overeating. The portion control is my weakness.
I am trying this again and this time I am staying till the end.

Proudly I can say after graduation from college my son and daughter are on their own doing well.

In 2013 I become a grandmother and in 2014 I married my second soul made.
My husband is the one that introduce me to biking. The second love of my life after my family of course.

Than another obstacle came my way-MENOPAUSE. Oh well, let me tell you. You just look at food and you gain 5 pounds.

So 2016 I start again from the beginning. 6 years older, 6 years wiser., and I truly believe I can do it again because of this wonderful site.

My Goals:
My goal is to be healthy and if possible bring my weight to 160 pounds.
Not according to the charts but through my life I learn that this is the ideal weight for me. I would love to keep it off for 40 years. Later if I will be lucky to get older (over 85)I would not mind to gain a few pounds. Why?
You would ask.
Well there has been proven that, people live longer and healthier life if they put on a few pounds in the end of their life.
So I would love to be healthy till the end. Ha, ha.

SparkPeople works for me and I am thankful and proud for be a member.


My Program:
To my second husband exercise is like drinking water. So I was happy when we met because he helped me to incorporate activities into my life and by enjoying what we do does not feels like exercise at all. He introduced me to biking on our third date. In the first month of our relationship he surprised me and bought me brand new bike and even if was hard for me to keep up with him I love it. We are lucky to live in North-East part of Illinois, because our state has many biking paths and trails. We bike 20-25 miles each weekend from March till the end of October. We are also members of Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy whose mission it is to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines.
Our second favorite cardio open 365 days a year is climbing 126 limestone stairs ascending at what appeared to be a 90-degree grade lead to the top of a former toboggan run at Swallow Cliff. It is only 15 min away from our house and we often stop there on a way
