A new approach

Hi! My name is Angelique and I'm here because I need to learn how to treat myself better. I recently realized that my bad food and fitness habits were a way of passively harming myself, and it has to stop.

I am currently earning a masters degree in counseling, but am also a singer. I enjoy knitting, spinning wool, writing, beadweaving, gardening, hiking, etc.

I've noticed that you stripped the negativity and doomsaying from your page. Way to go! You have a better chance of reaching your goal if you simply believe that you can.

I know you did not lose much weight your first week. Take heart--you're doing everything right, and you did lose a bit in inches. I applaud you for resisting your impulse in that moment to binge.

What's more important is that you're starting to feel better from the inside out. Your nutritional supplements and the new diet are really making a difference. Remember how you went through the whole afternoon on Friday without even thinking of a caffeine lift?

One more thing: Two thumbs up on the habits you've modeled for your kids. Their go-to snacks are yogurt, and fruits and vegetables that they helped raise in their own garden. Keep modeling healthy habits for them, and they might not ever have to join SparkPeople (as lovely as it is!).

My Goals:
* lose 50 pounds by next August

* improve my overall fitness; I want to be strong again

* change my default settings to nutritious food choices

* at least 8 glasses of water a day

* treat myself kindly

My Program:
* using the food tracker, my new best friend! (I can take the tough love.)

* major cardio and strength training on Mon-Wed-Fri, but at least 10 minutes of cardio on off days

* journal writing, getting to know people on SP, focusing on the positive and small, manageable goals

Personal Information:
I am from Chicago but have been living in Utah for the past 6 years.

I am married with three great kids--they are what keeps me going, and I'm doing this for them as much as for me.

Other Information:
My first career was as an opera singer, and music is the very fiber of my life and my being. I love to write but don't get to indulge that much right now. I am currently in graduate school studying mental health counseling.
