My Page...Welcome!! Glad you stopped by!

I don't want to be skinny, just healthy. Being able to take my husband down with one swoop of my leg would just be icing on the cake!!! A girl always needs something to look forward to!!!

May 9, 2009- Today is race day. Although I'm a bit disappointed in myself, it should be a fun day. 2 weeks before I injured my knee and currently in therapy to heal it. I'm supposed to take it easy....YEAH, RIGHT!! The great thing is, I know I can do it. I can run that race ...

Hi Tanja! I wondered what was up, but figured you would be back on when the time was right. I hope you're ok and all is well with your family. Fill me in when and if you want to.

I'm still trying to find my rhythm since we had Chewy euthanized July 14. He was having real trouble getting around, and then his hip joint wouldn't stay in place. He was in a lot of pain and the vet (who also loved him dearly) recommended that it was the kindest thing we could do. It was so very hard, but my youngest daughter was with me, and my oldest was on the cell phone and she got to say goodbye to him...and we lay on the floor with him and petted and loved him until the end.

Wow. I thought I had finished grieving for that silly dog, but no. Ok. I'm going to head out for a walk now, but I'm so glad you wrote. :) Any time you want to chat, drop me a line. In the meantime, I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

Hugs,
Karen

Hey Tanja - It's so ridiculously hot outside that I don't even want to venture out! I went to the grocery this morning really early (and NO dog) and I was drenched by the time I got home. 90 is not something I like to see on my thermometer! 60...now that's a number I like!

Heather and her boyfriend were here for the weekend (with Madison, Alex's dog) so it was even more interesting than usual! Chewy was a bit intolerant of our visiting canine...but it never got past the snarky growl stage. :) We went on a couple of short hikes (all together) and picked some berries - it was fun. Heather drove him back to Ohio, and Karl and I spent a very quiet 4th together. We didn't even watch the fireworks on TV! (now that is bad!)

I've been spending about 1-2 hours a day scanning in photos for a slideshow for my parents' 50th anniversary party. Good GRIEF that's tedious. I even schedule my exercise in the middle of scanning so I don't completely lose my mind! hahaha

I ate too much over the weekend, so we will be not eating meat the rest of this week and I will definitely be watching my portions better. I love food...sigh. Time to pay the piper!

How are your walks with the neighborhood gals? Still going strong? I'm still walking with my Spark buddy...but I'm not REALLY looking forward to tomorrow's walk...another 92 degree day. Oh well...I could always just go in my bathing suit!

You stay cool! I will do the same. I really really am grateful we have air conditioning!

Hugs!
Karen

Hey Tanja! I can't believe it's been almost a week since I last wrote. Having our youngest daughter home for the next month has thrown a (nice) wrench into my daily schedule. :) Did I tell you she brought her cat home too...and...Chewy does NOT like cats! It's worked out well so far, because 1. he's blind and 2. his sniffer doesn't work so well anymore. The cat LIVES!

I love that you're having success already just by getting back to tracking food. It can be a real pain in the keyster, but it keeps me honest and (for the most part) on track too! I've been losing just about 1/2 pound week so far. It's not very exciting, but I'm happy to be going in the right direction again!

I hope you and your family have a fantastic weekend. I know you'll be busy with the girls home and summer stuff - but when you get a minute, I'd love to hear what adventures you've had!

Off to walk Chewy!

emoticon to the NOVA Sparkers team! I live in the Woodbridge area too (as do several of our members). I look forward to getting to know you better. Several of us have gotten together to walk, to go to the gym, we've done walks/races together and we have our monthly group meetings-the next one is this Saturday. It's a fun and caring team.

Tanja! I'm so happy you're back in action! I'm 3 weeks back into logging my nutrition and loving my exercise again. One of my SP friends encouraged me to join a "summer challenge" and it really helped me turn the corner!

Complacency gets me every time! BOOOOOO.

What are you doing for exercise these days? Mercifully, we are having delightfully cool weather this week - but I've been able to keep to my 6x per week cardio routine regardless of the weather. I mix it up with riding my bike (on my indoor trainer), workout dvds, walking with my local SP buddy, and on Sundays, I take my trekking poles and do my 5K route. So far, so good.

Are your girls out of school yet? Have any big summer plans? We don't for the summer, but I'm trying to put together a trip for the fall (it will be our 25th wedding anniversary in December). I'm not a cruise ship person, so this will be all very low key. I think we're going to the mountains...somewhere!! Haven't decided if we're going to go south (Smokies) or north ( Porcupine Mts, Upper Peninsula in MI). Not camping, but not the Ritz either! I do require a hot shower!

It's really good to hear from you! I'd love to hear what you've been up to - or what your exercise plans are etc... whenever you get a minute.

Talk with you soon!
