Me fat?? Nah...
I didn't believe I needed to pay attention to what I eat when my friends shared their stories about slow metabolism as they get (lets say) wiser :-). I didn't think it was an issue for me even though weighing machine kept telling me the numbers were going up slowly but surely. Things really went downhill after I started working from home. My weight was climbing and my so called workout involved coming down to study room, stare at computer for 9/10 hrs and then go to living room to stare at tv screen. Finally when I saw my relatives widening their eyes at my wide butt and I was having hard time to get in my "loose jeans", I decided to do something about it. I started slowly and tried different things - walking with weights, aerobic classes in various gyms, and settled on step aerobics class. It was the best thing I ever did! I saw other folks in class who are older than me (older than my mom) and in great shape. After losing couple of lbs, I happen to stumble over spark web site. Since then I've able to keep track of what I have been eating and not just going through motions. For me short term/medium goals worked well... I started with losing only 5 lbs initially but then as I achieved that goal, set up a little more challenging goal for myself. Because of Sparks site, aerobic classes and jogging, I lost about 20 lbs in 2006. I'm able to say no to food when I'm not hungry (sometimes at least). I can see shape of my hips... it doesn't comingle with my thighs anymore. I can kick my own butt (literally!). My loose jeans are so loose that I can no longer wear them. I can jog three miles without walking in between. Now I can relieve stress while running and go out with family/friends for a meal in the restaurant without hurting my body. So no, I'm not fat, and this time I'm not in denial. Atleast I don't think so :-)
