I did it!
Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
I have struggled with my weight off and on since I turned 30. Most recently, I packed on the pounds following three years of infertility, three IVF procedures, and one devastating miscarriage.
I grew up a skinny kid that overate all the time. I was raised an ovo-lacto vegetarian which meant I ate as much cheese, butter and eggs I wanted. As I grew up, I started to put on weight, and even as a body conscious teenager who thought she needed to lose "about 10 pounds" I was still skinny. At the same time, I was fascinated with female muscle, and devoured magazines like Shape and Muscle and Fitness, and watched Cory Everson on ESPN as often as possible. In 2004, I injured my knee, right before the holidays, so I stopped working out but didn't stop eating the yummy food. Then, to top it off, I started working for a caterer, eating really REALLY unhealthy food every day. Before I knew it, I was 209 pounds, and disgusted with myself. I knew something had to change. Plus my bloodwork was bad. I was knocking on the door of diabetes and heart disease!
So I made a change. I lost 39 pounds with weight watchers online.... and then plateaued. Then I joined Sparkpeople, but couldn't really get through my plateau, even though I was healthier and in better shape than I had even been in my entire life.
I stayed about the same weight for over two years, until I finally joined a Weight Watcher meeting, which allowed me to get to a healthy weight of 156 pounds.
In the meantime, I was inspired my some friends of mine who joined Team in Training and ran the LA Marathon. I started running with the goal to run a half marathon, but when I crossed that finish line, I was hooked. Shortly after my first race, I found out a friend's daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia, so I decided to join Team in Training to race and raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in her honor. My experience was so awesome, I returned to TNT to coach a couple seasons.
I then took a couple seasons off to pursue IVF. After two failed cycles, we did manage to get pregnant, but that pregnancy only lasted nine weeks, and ate my way through the grief.
Now I need to find my way again.
