I have been over-weight since I was about 8 years old. But was always just a few pounds over-weight. Until I entered my early 20's and a traumatic event in my life ended with me gaining almost 100 pounds in less than a year. I've been fighting that weight ever since.

Just last year I was diagnosed with thyroid disease, so finally had somewhat of an answer as to why my weight loss efforts were fruitless. After trying every diet/exercise/overall fitness program known to man, I finally took the leap and had lap-band surgery in July of 2009. This was not an easy decision for me, perhaps the hardest thing I've ever done in fact. . I felt like I was 'giving up,' like the weight had finally won, and forced me to do something I truly didn't want to do. I am now thinner than I have been in many, many years. But contrary to popular belief, wls (weight loss surgery) is not as easy as you might think. There are complications even the doctor doesn't tell you about. They say things like "you won't believe how good you're going to feel" etc... They don't tell you that the hunger will still be there some of the time. If you eat too much, you get sick. And your friends that are over-weight may turn against you, like you've betrayed them. Which in some ways, is the hardest part of all.

So I am here. Looking for good recipes, a reasonable exercise plan, and some friends to share the journey.
I wish all of you the greatest luck in achieving your goals.

My Goals:
My ultimate weight loss goal is to get to 175 pounds. I would like to do this by the end of 2010. But will be totally happy if I can make it to at least 200 pounds by that time.

My Program:
I am planning on eating very little (since I really have no choice,) and getting some type of physical activity for 1/2 hour each day. I am focusing on getting adequate amounts of protein.

Personal Information:
I am originally from Indiana, but was raised and still live in Colorado.
I am happily married, my husband and I will celebrate our 7th anniversary on January 27th!
I'm a pet lover, and have lots of pets - 4 dogs and 4 cats.

Other Information:
My favorite author is Jasper Fforde.

Albert Einstein - "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."

I believe in fairies.
Random enough for ya?! :)
