Walt Disney World, April '07 I am going back when I reach GOAL!
No wonder the Empire is so popular!
"Listen closely: the only time it's too late to change yourself is when you're dead. Until then, you're simply making excuses or lying to yourself."
I wrote the following a little over a year ago:
"I am a GA Peach! The summers here are very hot and humid and the winters can be very cold and wet. I work out through it all. I was born and raised in the land of biscuits and corn bread, collards, fried chicken and sweet tea! I have a very large extended family-in both numbers and lbs-and every celebration and hard time has always centered on food. Got a good grade? Have some cake! Death in the family? Have more! Feeling good, bad, sad or bored? Theres plenty in the fridge and help yourself!
I am a mom of two wonderful kids and have a great husband. I have been overweight my whole life but my weight really ballooned after my son was born in 2003. I went on Depo Provera 4 weeks after his birth. I have since learned that Depo is an appetite stimulant! How nice! A girl like me does not need yet another reason to eat, thank you very much. I finally went off of it in August of 2007 and I will tell you it has made such a difference. I had no idea how much my personality was affected by it. For me it was like I had PMS every day. This was just my own personal experience with Depo. I tried Weight Watchers in 2006 and 2007 but I only lost 15 lbs total after 2 years on the program. I had no energy and did not work out at all and I would also eat zero point foods all day and eat all of my points on junk at night. Looking back I know that a lot of that was from the Depo but I still feel that I was truly not ready to lose weight. I had to be completely committed and ready for this to work. So far, I have lost more in 3 months on Spark People than in 2 years with Weight Watchers. This time around I am doing this for ME; not for my family, my friends, or my enemies.
I know this is a very slow process and that this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. I am learning to forgive myself if I have an occasional slip-up. I am also learning in this process how to deal with my stress in a positive way.
I am going to update this once a month so I can see my progress from month to month. I enjoy the ticker, but I need a brief rundown of what happened that month so I can see at a glance how I am doing.
Highest Weight-333 lbs 2003
Three months after my son was born.
I count this day as the turning point as two days after this weigh in I went to Savannah and I could barely make it back up the steps at River Street. My hubby and I were so exhausted; we were back at the hotel at 9pm!
Not a great weight loss, but I had been ill with the flu along with the rest of my family.
My grandfather passed away on April 5, so I am really thankful for any loss!
I was apart of BLC #4 and I really credit that team for this weight loss. I was diagnosed with a severe throat infection May 1.
I am fighting to lose every ounce gained and then some. I am still fighting the same throat infection from May!
This is the smallest I can remember being since before my daughter was born in 2000. I am smaller today than I was before her birth!
It's been a long time since I have been on here. I was sick for almost two entire months and even after I got well, I did not get back on here and work hard. Instead, I barely exercised and ate complete crap and it really has shown in the weight gain and they way I feel. I have found my way back here, back to what I need! I need the support of the boards here on SparkPeople as well as the way to track my foods and exercise. I am taking it slowly, day by day and am reading my old blogs for inspiration. "
I have finally found my way back to SP and have recommitted myself to this process!
I am SO happy to be back! I have invested in myself in a BIG way. I am eating very balanced again and working out. I have also invested in a GoWear Fit and it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY. I now can tell at a glance where I am with the calories I have burned and I track my calories religiously. I am currently back on a detox type of plan to get rid of all of my food cravings. I am using the Biggest Loser 30 Day Jump Start as a guide.
I am choosing things that I know will help me along the way and I will work hard for.
15 lbs: IPOD Shuffle *Earned 5/13/2008
I had been using the MP3 player on my cell phone but I was draining the battery too fast so I moved this goal up from the 25 lb marker. I use it every day when I work out. Music keeps me motivated.
25 lbs: New headphones for my IPOD. *Earned 7/7/08
I really hate ear buds.
50 lbs: New workout DVD or new workout game for the Wii Fit
100 lbs: 120 G Zune
My husband has a 30 G Zune and I love it. The interface is so much easier than the Ipod. I want to earn mine by losing this weight!
125 lbs: Trip to Savannah with just my husband
It has been YEARS since we have had a weekend away, and I want to have a long weekend or maybe even a week with just us in Savannah!
140 lbs: Trip to WDW
The last time I went to Disney was in April of 2007. I weighed about 295 lbs. I cannot wait to go back and experience Disney as a healthy, fit person!
I have modified my above goals somewhat. I am trying very hard to focus on losing weight safely, at no more than 1-2 lbs per week, while building muscle and endurance. I want to be a runner. I want to be fit and healthy. I want to look good in a pair of jeans. Above all, I want to FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF!!! I want to be the woman I know I am deep inside. I want to be the mom and wife and friend that I know I need to be. I am changing every aspect of my life-not only eating healthy and exercising-and making myself a priority.
My goals are to eat what I need nutritionally and exercise. I want to lose 140 lbs by August 2009. I am doing it slowly, 10% at a time.
I want to lose 1-2 lbs per week by:
-Eating balanced, healthy meals and snacks
-Working out daily, a minimum of 30 minutes a day by walking, jogging or using a Wii Fit
-Strength training 3 days a week
-Getting enough sleep
-Reaching out and getting support when I need it
-Working through problems instead of binging
-Getting enough rest
This is the first time I am paying attention to counting calories and really being picky about what I put into my body. For me, it's about giving my body what it needs and when I eat something that my body does not need, it really shows and I feel horrible! I try to get 3 servings of dairy daily and 6 servings of vegetables and when I eat cereal and grains, I only eat items that have 4 grams of fiber or more per serving. I have also cut way back on sugar and sodium in my diet. I am addicted to sugar (especially chocolate) and even if I eat a little bit of it, I binge, so I am cutting it out almost completely. I eat 3 meals a day and two snacks and I am definitely NOT perfect! I try and eat as healthy as possible in order to give my body what it needs.
My Current BMR (as of 3/20/2008) 2044
I am walking my way up to C25K and doing yoga 4-5 times a week. I do a bit of strength training with resistance bands and handweights.
I am happily married and have 2 wonderful kids! I have a very large extended family. I have a couple of home based businesses and doing this online is perfect for me. I believe the world would be a much better place of nap time was mandatory.
My dad taught me this: No matter how bad you think you have it, someone else always has it worse. No matter how good you think you have it, someone always has it better. Be thankful for what you have always. You can tell alot about a person by the way they treat people in the service industry, the elderly, animals and kids.
I have a great sense of humor and try to live life to the fullest. I love to read, I love all kinds of and know way too much about music, and love my family.
