May 2010 - Getting ready for the BolderBoulder 10K
I'm 57, married to a fun loving, caring man, mom to 5 happy(grown-up)kids, grandmother to 3 adorable boys, and a little grand-daughter. I use to be a nurse years ago, I loved working orthopedics and also as an assistant to a gastroenterologist. This past year I finally went through training to get my certifications to be a group fitness instructor, plus additional training as a Spin instructor. I hope to add a few more trainings to my resume soon - aqua fitness instructor, etc. I am currently teaching Spin and Abs & Arms classes & totally enjoying it!
Four years ago I couldn't have imagined myself being physically fit enough to be taking these classes let alone teaching them. Some good physicians, a supportive & encouraging family and SparkPeople helped me to achieve my goal of overall good health physically and mentally!
*Lose those last few pounds & keep them off
*Keep living this healthy livestyle
*Start some serious road cycling in our beautiful surroundings
*Graduate to all-day hikes
*Start back to school part-time
*Volunteer in our community on a regular basis
*Start painting again
*Learn the 108 Form in Tai Chi
*Start guitar lessons
Tracking everything! Food, nutrients, exercise, etc.
Exercising for 60-120 minutes/day, 5 days/week. Enjoy being active by looking for ways to burn calories - hiking, biking, walking, etc.
I was born & raised in Ohio, and have lived in Utah, California, Texas, New Hampshire, England, Venezuela, Switzerland, and now in Colorado - woohoo!

Whenever I hear of a middle age man or woman struggling with losing weight, I encourage them to look at 3 things:
1.) Overall health conditions which might be playing a part, i.e.: hormones, thyroid, stress, etc.
2.)Set nutrition goals AND then track your food intake!
3.)Set exercise or physical activity goals, AND track these also

I was reading a blog and saw your comment on it. I definitely suggest that you "show and tell" that first doctor what you have done for yourself. Maybe he or she might be a better practitioner because of you....

Hi! I' new to this group, and just read your blog on jumping rope. I enjoyed it. The picture in your background is just beautiful. Is it anywhere close to where you live? Looking forward to getting to know you and others in the LDS Ladies over 40.
