Seeing myself in my daughter's wedding video was heart breaking, but also a strong impetus. My oldest daughter (who just got married)is a fantastic encouragement. She weighed 232 pounds when she was 23, but through eating right and exercise has maintained at 140 for 8 years and ran her 1st marathon. Her husband is also a huge encouragement. As a teen and young adult he had been obese. Through the same sensible eating and exercise he has lost 100 pounds, runs every day and completed several marathons. With my old knees, walks will be more my style. My youngest daughter had been chunky in junior high, but also started a healthy eating and exercise program in high school. As she is temporarily living with us (entering a masters in theatre education program this fall after teaching theatre in Hong Kong for 2 years), she is always encouraging me to walk with her.

My Goals:
My goal is to lose weight in a healthy sustainable manner, not by "dieting". I did it once, but then let the stress of work overwhelm my resolve. (Those 12 hour days sitting in front of the computer didn't help).

My Program:
I have started tracking calories, and am trying to walk a mile a day. As my family has a history hip and knee problems, I am deterimined to break the cycle.

Personal Information:
I was an Operating Room nurse for 32 years in the Chicago area, but switched to information systems in the OR about 12 years ago. I have two beautiful supportive daughters and a wonderful husband. He however does not feel I need to lose weight and am "fine" just like I am.

Other Information:
I love to read, garden, garage sale, and be with family. I'm hoping to retire in 2 1/2 years when I'm 65 (if the economy permits)

Hi and welcome back to you as well. Well done not putting any weight on, it's a hard job this weight loss thing isn't it. Lol. They do say that anything worth while doing is hard. So I will try again and hopefully be successful. Good luck to you and take care. How's the new baby doing?

Thanks for commenting on my blog, "Training the Yearlings"! Yes, we both DO get a workout. I took a wrong step today while hurrying after Dutchess and fell flat on my face!! Took the fall well, though. No lasting effects! emoticon emoticon emoticon
