Committed to Success

I am a 30-something who realized that I'm the heavist I've ever been in my life, that I'm out of shape, and that it is one of the only things that makes me unhappy.

My revelation came after pinching the nerve in my back, a non-weight related injury. The incident gave me scare because it took two weeks to feel somewhat normal again. I realized that if I didn't do something to get into shape and to lose weight, I would end up like my mother...60 years old, incredibly obese, and ...

My revelation came after pinching the nerve in my back, a non-weight related injury. The incident gave me scare because it took two weeks to feel somewhat normal again. I realized that if I didn't do something to get into shape and to lose weight, I would end up like my mother...60 years old, incredibly obese, and hardly able to walk.
So, it's time to take control of that part of my life...espeically since everything else is going so well.

Here is the 411--I'm originally from a small town about an hour and a half northwest of NYC. From there, I went to college in upstate NY before making my journey down to Washington, DC. I've been in DC since 1999, and I love it!

My husband and I met in an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day 2004. We were married at the Beaches Boscobel Resort and Golf Club on January 14, 2007, and we honeymooned at the Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Beach and Villa Resort for 5 WONDERFUL days.

Since getting married, we bought and moved into our new condo, bought a new car, and are just having the time of our lives.

The rest is history in the making.

My Goals:
To be healthy and to lose weight.

My Program:
I'm a tried-and-true believer in the Weight Watchers program, but I prefer the Sparkpeople Community.

I am using the WW flex point plan and use 26 points a day. I'm going to the gym at least 3 times a week, logging everything I put in my mouth, and drinking so much water that I feel like I'll float away.

In terms of online support, I frequent the "30 somethings with 25-49 pounds to lose" board and the "SP Class of July 29- August 4, 2007" board. I read the SP articles and follow a few outside blogs.

Other Information:
I love Bakespace.com, even though I'm a novice cook. If you're interested in checking it out, go to my profile at

Do you realize how few people stayed with a healthy lifestyle who joined when you did two years ago? I know they WISH they had done what you have by making such great changes in your life! emoticon

I know this next year will be even better! emoticon emoticon It is YOUR life and it is all about the choices YOU make!

Congrats on adding jogging to your workouts! You'll be doing a 5K before you know it and then you'll really be hooked.

Hey Alleigh!
I just wanted to pop in here and say how much I appreciated your sane comments on the thread about the Golden Compass movie. I was having a hard time with how irrationally people were being - just reacting without doing any fact checking. Throughout so much of our history, that kind of thinking really has gotten us in trouble. Thanks for being such a voice of reason.
