Figure Competition Training

I'm new to this type of training, and like it so far. Have already gained 2 pounds (muscle + fluids) after just two weeks of lifting and minimal cardio (HIIT 30 minutes). I used to run cross country and finished my last marathon in May. I want to try something new now.

I found a competition in CA through NPC in April 2011..I'm going to aim for that one and decide later whether to enter bikini or figure...who knows maybe I can build enough muscle by then to do figure, maybe not.

I lift heavy every 2-3 days to give my muscles time to recover and grow. Every day I do 30 minutes (or a bit more) of HIIT cardio using the Insanity program from Beachbody or Zuzana's great workouts at bodyrock.tv

hey thanks for the add, I'm glad I was able to help. Don't be afraid to increase your calories over maintenance when you are building, if you eat clean you won't gain fat!

Hi,

Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you. I'm in my finals for summer semester so I get a bit busy. I currently compete in the National Physique Comittee (NPC) but I am considering a move to a natural league next season. i hope this helps. There is plenty of info out there on different leagues, it just takes some searching. Good luck and keep us all posted :)

Ok I'm not sure why I thought to tell you this but here goes....... I'm at the gym last night just trying to get so much cardio in (I need to get the fat off) and then head over to the weights section. There are these women in there that look like figure models... just super fit and very toned. Well they probably thought I was this huge weirdo cause I was staring and listening in (I'm a nerd I know) I just got this HUGE bout of jealousy. I almost left like a child LOL I couldn't believe my own reaction to these women who obviously work hard. So I am putting my game face on and I am DETERMINED to join their little clique hahahaha I know I can do it!
