You know it's time to go on a diet when you hide behind a baby elephant hoping to look thinner.

Using Sparkpeople I lost 30 lbs in 2007, dropping from 200 pounds to 170 pounds. I kept it off for quite a while, then gained it back and then some.

My new goal: lose 49 lbs, going from 209 lbs to 160 lbs. And this time I need to learn to keep it off. Eat healthy and excercise to stay in maintenance, and diet when I start to gain a little, rather than waiting until it becomes a lot!

My rewards:

Weight-Related, Starting at 209

199: 90-minute massage (because I finally got my momentum going and I'm actually doing it!)
195: Lucy Pants
190: 60-minute massage - You Go Girl!
185: Mail Order Catalog Treasure
180: 60-minute massage - You Go Girl!
175: Lucy Pants
170: iPhone
165: 90-minute massage - You Go Girl!
160: Professional Clothes Shopping

Fitness-Related, counting the streak of days in a row of 30-minutes minimum of cardio exercise:

(didn't think to reward this until. . .)
70 Days (10 weeks!) - Exercise clothing shopping at Lucy's
100 Days - something cool. . .

My Goals:
Long term:
Be at a healthy and attractive weight permanently.

Be cardiovascularly fit. Exercise every day.

And my chiropractor says my goals should be to be strong and flexible. Sounds good to tme.

My Program:
I'm counting calories using SparkPeople. In addition to the other SparkPeople resourses, I've found The Beck Diet solution book to be an excellent read, and the mental exercises in it well worth the effort.

For exercise, I walk, use the treadmill, ride my bike (sometimes to work, even!) and I play drums for the video-game Rock Band (which at hard and expert levels is quite the workout!).

For strength training I've purchased a resistance band with DVDs and am planning to use that because I can pack it in a suitcase and do it in a hotel room (I travel overseas for work).

For motivation I log and blog! I'm a visual person, so keeping a regular blog of my journey that I can see, (with cute little pictures, of course!) helps me stay motivated. You are welcome to comment on my blogs; that provides extra motivation, too! :)

Personal Information:
I have a wonderful husband, Norm. My son Jonathan, who is away at college, makes his mom proud! We have two cats, and a nice home in beautiful Portland, Oregon.

Other Information:
I like photography, scuba diving, geeking on the computer, carving sand, and making glass beads and other small glass objects on a torch.
