A "pet" in our yard - not very old!

Welcome to a piece of Alaska on SparkPeople.
I'm a 47 year old wife and mom of two. I work as a private music instructor and am also the administrative assistant/payroll person for the music studio. I am slowly learning to take care of myself while my body continues to shut down. Some of the long term changes I've tried to put in place haven't really worked, but I'm still stepping forward.
I still look forward to the journey. I am still hoping to find some motivation to help in my adventure towards healthiness and I continue to feel encouraged by the supportive community here.
My image as I joined Spark People was the oxygen mask dropping on the plane. I've been helping quite a few people with their own masks, and I may have had mine on, but right now, it needs special attention. Maybe my son put a kink in it! Regardless, it's time for Mommy time and readjustment of "resources!"
I want to delete that paragraph, but I can't. It's still true! I've been around awhile, though, and can safely say that my turtle icon on my tracker is appropriate. I'm not making huge progress, but there's still been progress. Little changes make a difference.
The scale numbers aren't where I want them to be. The ability to function is. That matters more. I'm about to become a homeschooling mom in the midst of all the other pieces of life that haven't changed. Because I am healthier, I'm feeling okay about it. We'lll both need rest days, but the road ahead is possible because of the road I've been on with SparkPeople!!!
As of October 2008, I have a Wii to play with, and feel more motivated to take care of me - it's like having PT at my house!!! I was also grateful to find a Wii Fit Team here at SparkPeople! Even more motivation!!! WooHoo!
January 2009 - I joined the New You Boot Camp challenge. I'm not sure I'll be able to do everything that's recommended, but I trust that I can make it through 31 days! A little each day, right? Well, this was part of the challenge for day one - updating this page! See? I did it!
May 2009 - I'm trading the New You Bootcamp challenge for the Sweatsuit to Swimsuit bootcamp. I also reconnected the Wii and played some baseball pitching lefthanded! Woohoo!
December 2010 - 2010 has been a very rough year mentally and physically, yet I've done what I could to persevere. I may take time, soon, to post some of my pictures I just posted to Facebook yesterday. This year has been a year of changes, but I know more need to happen. I'm glad I already have SparkPeople as part of my resource for that.
February 2011. I was down to 140 and am back to 145. I'm sad about that. It's not a bad change, mostly a medication change, and as I heal from a serious bout of pneumonia, I'll be able to tone and drop a little more perhaps. It's not vital to know. My image, this week, is being in a boat with adequate supplies, but the oars are gone. The sky isn't dark, but the clouds are around, and the waves are the waves that are from further out storms, just rocking me currently. If I can lift my eyes, I see glory rays - beams of light through the clouds. There's peace in the storm, and I'm glad for that. I'm also glad to be here. As I'm becoming more engaged with SP, I'm gaining more support. I'm very grateful for that.
May 2012. I'm back up to 160, but I'm wearing small shirts and smaller sizes than I have in the past few years. Still fighting belly issues. I was gainfully employed yet lost my position because my health didn't let me have consistent work hours.
My kids have 3 more days of school, though, and we'll have an active summer. They're both enjoying swimming, and T is competing with me on the Wii Fit Plus games. it's fun! I'm also currently part of the Spring into Shape Bootcamp Challenge. I'm doing what I can with the moments I can! Isn't that a good challenge in itself? I think so.
Jan 2013. I had another position towards the end of summer that lasted into November. I have a space to teach more music students now and am also the payroll/administrative assistant for the music studio. It's an exciting challenge and one I'm looking forward to. It also allows me more time on my own to take fitness classes and care for my growing kiddos. My weight has steadied at 160, and while I haven't been comfortable with that, it's been hard to make adjustments as medications and functioning levels have shifted. I feel healthy at times, yet really can't rely on what my system will do on a given day. That is difficult. I do what I can with the moments I can. That is my best option at the moment!
Dec 2013. I have attempted to stay more involved at SparkPeople this year. The loss of my dad in July was not really a surprise but has still been a shock to my system. I was rather happy/sad in October to see my numbers hadn't changed in a year. That's good and bad. I want to see more changes. I do see doctors less, and they say I'm doing well. My life balance is still off, though, and that's becoming more clear again. I will continue doing what I can do, though. To the next step forward!!!
Jan 2016 - I kept coming to the page and making little steps, but obviously didn't make an update *here* last year! I'm at 168, just about my highest (aside from when I was pregnant at 180.) I just purchased my neighbor's Fitbit. I get to adjust the goals for me - make them reachable first, then nudge them higher. I'm amazed that the fitbit points post as they do, though I knew they would.
As I mentioned in a previous paragraph, I'm about to start homeschooling my ill daughter. We don't know what she's coping with, but it makes attending school impossible. A new adventure for our family!
Thank you for visiting my page. Keep making progress. Step forward into *your* next adventure!
