I'm so Fit and Nerdy!

I suppose I started my journey with as many negative reasons to increase my health as there were positive ones.

I was tired of being poorly treated as the "fat" friend in social circles, tired of a slim sister who picked on me from time to time, and most definitely jealous when I saw an adorable outfit on a department store manequin, an outfit that I myself wouldn't be able to wear.

I was tired of being poorly treated as the "fat" friend in social circles, tired of a slim sister who picked on me from time to time, and most definitely jealous when I saw an adorable outfit on a department store manequin, an outfit that I myself wouldn't be able to wear.
I had one too many early morning tantrums with work clothes.
Getting dressed for an evening out was even worse.

No matter how depressed I became with myself, however, these reasons were never enough to motivate me. I had to start listing much more serious, long-term reasons to put myself in the position to get in shape. On both sides of my family history lies the danger of diabetes, as well as thyroid issues, and at my heaviest I suffered constant headaches, hormonal issues, and an added bonus of rolling my left ankle more often than I thought was possible.

Since being a serious member since March 2011 (I technically joined in 2009, but never committed myself to utilizing the site until now) the beneficial changes have been more than I could have expected! I ride my bike to work every day, excercise and swim on a regular basis, and eat some of the best, healthiest stuff!

Since the beginning of this year my achievements include:
-Quitting smoking in January
-Buying an ankle brace to rid of the constant fear of ankle injury
-Eliminating fast food from diet since February (as well as soda)
-Conquered various health issues linked to thyroid
-Becoming a lover, rather than a fighter, of excercise
-To date, losing 40 lbs with 10 more to go!
-Comfortably wearing a two piece swimsuit in public for the first time ever!!

All these successes I have gained not because I committed myself to a short term diet in quiet revenge against mean people and unfair fashion standards, but because I made the lifestyle change for some bigger picture reasons and I'm TEN TIMES HAPPIER for it!!

My Goals:
I have 10 more pounds to lose, then it is the maintaining phase! I also hope to take a long needed trip to europe within the next year.

My Program:
The greatest game changer that worked for me was to focus solely on the eating habits for the first month, leaving out any planned or recorded excercise. In the past it had been difficult to keep up with sudden urges to workout AND diet all at once, two separate yet daunting things that would compete for my energy.
So instead, I decided to take the first month slow, began tracking my nutrition, learned and practiced many new recipes, and made measuring food second nature. By the time the second month rolled around, I was ready to tackle an excercise routine because my body was already feeling great from the balanced meals and the 8 glasses of water a day. This made it possible for my body to accept the added (good) stress of a workout without feeling wiped out or too tired afterwards.

Other Information:
I love comic books, video games, science fiction novels, anime, metal and electronic music. I also love to draw and paint, swimming, and learning useless trivia knowledge (and sharing it =P)
