Somehow I HAVE to find a way to do this!

I talked in my first introduction about determination but I have lately been questioning just how determined I really am.I have a very energetic 9-yr old grandson who turns round when I'm struggling to keep up with him, puts his hands on his hips and shouts: 'Granny!!! Are you coming?' My other grandson is nearly five and I want to be able to keep up with both of them.

I have slipped and slithered here since September 2009 - eating well - eating badly. Exercising and walking intermittently or overdoing both. The thing that has kept me here is the connection with other peoples' struggles, inspiration from other peoples' successes and oceans of support and friendship. Being part of this community is the first thing to give me hope for a better life.

My Goals:
I want to get my old energy and enthusiasm back - for myself and my health and for my family. My grandchilren are my greatest joy and I want to be able to run(!!!!) with them and see them grow and develop. My friends seem to acccept me for what I am but I would like to present them with a 'new me' - or rather ' the old me' - who doesn't give up before the evening is over.

My Program:
EXERCISE

"The road to hell is paved with couches."

*I keep trying get OFF mine and walk 30 minutes every day plus 30 minutes on the exercise bike. Alongside this I plan gentle warm-ups followed by strength exercises and stretches.

*I will get out of bed immediately in the morning and DO something physical - vigorous house cleaning perhaps - my house would be delighted!

*Sadly I am pledging not to spend so much time on Spark for the moment - it's just another excuse to spend yet more time on my couch.

*I will stop using my car so much & WALK to shops and to visit friends within reasonable distances.

*I will keep my pedometer clipped to my belt to remind me to build up my daily steps.

I will plan all food and drink for the day ahead and develop better self discipline and consistency.

If I fail in any - or all - of these sometimes I will try not to give up and hide under my duvet

Personal Information:
My name is Sonia and I live by the sea in Brighton, UK. I always wanted to live by the sea and an opportunity fell in my lap with ridiculous time frames but I just flurried around and got everything sorted. So- done and dusted and I LOVE it here. I have two sons 43 and 39, a 4 yr-old grandson and now a new tiny one - just 13 months old - who is doubly precious because my son and his wife lost their middle child nearly 2 years ago in a cot death at 10 weeks. It has been very hard but little Eli is bigger and stronger and we can see the danger (which is how we inevitably see it) is past. A bad time but we seem to be getting through it despite the odd small- and large - stumble.

Other Information:
I enjoy DIY and am currently renovating a tiny stone cottage in a favourite family spot in Dorset which is giving great pleasure to myself and my sons and families. I am starting a textile course - always an interest of mine. I have also been able to do quite a lot of travelling since I retired - the Emirates - Hong Kong (3 blissful months) - Mexico and most European countries. I want to do more but my life is suspended at the moment until the family troubles stabilise.

Morning Sonia
I hope you felt well enough to go to the Festival.
You really do suffer with bugs and I hope it hasn't lasted.

How are you liking Spark TV, I confess I haven't a clue? Dunce or what? LOL

Looking forward to a hot weekend, all chores done so maybe some time on the beach or in the garden catching some rays.

Be well hun emoticon emoticon

Good Morning!! Oh, the bug you have sounds like what Barry and I went through on vacation!! I hope you have speedy recovery. It isn't fun, as I understand what you must be going through. The challenge I am doing is the same one I did last time. I restarted the Jumpstart your Workout Challenge. But this time, I am doing 3 sets with it to challenge myself more. I could feel it yesterday!! It really works all the body. Right now, my pain is very little. Every once in a while I get a little 'shock' just to remind me it is there. Will talk with my neurologist when I see her on the 17th. Sometimes, it is a matter of waiting it out and seeing if it will go away completely. It doesn't disturb my day so that is good. Have a good time tonight. Hope the bug doesn't keep you down!!! Hugs!!!! xxoo

Hi Sonia,

Just wanted to stop by and say a BIG hello to you!!! You look to be having beautiful weather. That must make it a tad easier to get out and exercise in it. Also, just wanted to thank you for all your support. It means the world to me. Big hugs to you!!!

Hi Sonia
don't worry about instant responses emoticon we're both busy people and we good friends- we don't have to live in each other's pockets.......so to speak.
But I am glad your positivity has returned and you're enjoying your walks. I was gardening all day yesterday and hope to finish off out there today before the recycle is collected tomorrow- the bin is almost full!
Still waiting to hear from the hospital- in fact phoned them yesterday as feeling apprehensive and nervy in them mornings and thinking it might be the battery went to turn it down (as I was told I could) only to fine the mechanism to do so wasn't available!!! Looks like there is a fault on the "temporary setting"...........
Doc was not available so the secretary emailed him to call me.......hopefully today!!!!

Have a good one babe emoticon emoticon
