I had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on October 2, 2012. My highest recorded weight was 295. On the day of my surgery I weighed 268.2.

Surgery is not for everyone, but for me it had become the only option I could handle. I am forced to deal with my emotional issues and food addictions. I regularly attend support group meetings to help deal with these issues and to get more education regarding my new life.

I am on a quest to becoming a better physically, emotionally, and socially. I have been making changes to my life for some time now. In October 2008, I smoked my last cigarette. It was difficult to quit but anything worth doing is bound to be tough.

I was getting tired of my body around November 2009 when I reached my highest weight of 292 pounds. I knew the holidays were a terirble time to start losing weight so I didn't even really try but did start losing- I lost 10 pounds. In January I decided that I wanted to be serious so I joined Spark People, quit drinking soda, started drinking water, and started exercising. So far I have lost 45 pounds.

I could be doing better, I don't eat as healthy as I could or should. I still go the buffet restaurants, but stop myself at one plate. I made small changes overall - one or two cookies instead of half the package, mustard instead of mayo... that kind of thing.

Socially, I have never been comfortable in a social atmosphere but things are better now than they have been in a long time.

The changes I am making are positive for everybody in my family. My children are more active, making better choices with food, and are having fun in the process.

I've been heavy all of my life. The lowest I ever remember being was 164 pounds and I looked good. I've had three children since then, I know I won't ever be at that weight again, but I do need to become healthier.
