BE MORE BORING

I have a hard time slowing down and staying grounded in the present. I'm on autopilot way too often when it comes to my body. I want to get to the point where I am making conscious choices instead of acting out of habit. I want to be happy and at peace right now, while still having goals to get better.

I have a hard time slowing down and staying grounded in the present. I'm on autopilot way too often when it comes to my body. I want to get to the point where I am making conscious choices instead of acting out of habit. I want to be happy and at peace right now, while still having goals to get better.

I am learning how to be more boring in all aspects of life, and it is helping me to regain control. I am learning to say NO to myself and others. I am learning how to enjoy routines and stick to a plan. I am learning how to be happy with less and to stop worrying what others think. I am committed to improving my physical, mental and spiritual health everyday.

I love Elizabeth Bishop's sestina about losing that starts with "the art of losing isn't hard to master." I also love a quote from Alice Walker that goes "Let us be our revolution: to love what is plentiful instead of what is scarce." I am doing this differently this time. I am letting go of things one at a time. No more alcohol. No more sugar. No more rushing to travel when I need to stay home and take care of myself.

My Goals:
June 2013: I want to feel healthy. I want to stop binging and make exercise a priority. I'd like to be able to buy clothes on the "normal" side and get back into the 16's and 14's in my closet. I have a secret desire to participate in a triathlon.

January 2014: New Year, New Goals!

I am officially only moderately obese (BMI right under 35), but I would like to get out of the obesity range altogether.

I have been doing better with dressing up for work, but I would like to wear more fitting clothes and post pictures of them.
1. Blue suit
2. Black suit
3. Blue dress
4. Printed dress

I am very happy with my progress in the area of fitness, but I want to start taking on some of my fears.

1. Run a 5K
2. Go skiing
3. Bike 65 K
4. Do a headstand in yoga

My Program:
June 2013: I don't work for the summer, and I decided to focus on my body. I do nordic walking in the morning, and either walk a second time or swim in the afternoon. I started taking a yoga class. I avoid sugar and alcohol and try not to snack. I'm doing great, but I am nervous about what is going to happen once I go back to work.

September 2013: I am learning how to apply the good habits I developed this summer to a stressful work schedule. I eat breakfast at home and pack a healthy lunch everyday. I do everything in my power to leave work on time and to run or swim for at least an hour each day. I drink one beer or glass of wine each week, and I really enjoy it. I eat out a few times a week, but I eat a reasonable potion and take the rest home. I feel satisfied leaving food on my plate. I plan my meals around vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats. Sugar is no longer part of my life. I plan weekend trips to go hiking or to run 5K races.

Personal Information:
I am a teacher working in an American school in Germany. My mantra is: GO HIKING, DRINK BEER! I'm still single, but I would like to feel good enough to try dating again. I have a dog, but she live in the USA with my parents.

Other Information:
I love reading, watching movies (especially documentaries), walking, swimming, doing yoga and traveling. My guilty pleasure is binge TV watching. Right now, I am addicted to Scandal, Breaking Bad, and Dexter.

emoticon for stopping by my blog. I love the idea of preparing food and freezing portion sizes. I need to try this to see if it works for me.

Thanks so much for your comments on my blog--you are absolutely right, weight loss isn't linear and I need to keep that in mind because in a way it's a comforting thought! And I think tracking the ups and downs is important. Thanks again!

I'm inspired by your weight loss, and I've enjoyed reading your blogs. Your stories are vivid, and the details are entertaining. I can relate especially to your experience of having a closet full of nice clothes that don't fit! That's my problem at the moment, and I've embarked on a quest to solve it. Like you, I'm in the habit of storing too-tight clothes from many years ago, always hoping to return to a slimmer past. Step by step and day by day, I hope to return to my former size, but I won't be my former self because now I'm wiser and understand why this is important. It seems you're really making progress in all these areas. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you so much for dropping my blog. I tended to have only two pieces of clothing for each size as I went up or down. I'm a tightwad because bigger sizes are expensive and frumpy here - a great incentive to lose.

You're another expat teaching abroad, I see. Also I see that you are a very pretty lady! emoticon Best wishes on your health and fitness path!
