I admit. The title of my page does sound a little narcissistic, but isn't it supposed to be. After all, it is supposed to be about me.
So let's get to it: On a cool autumn Thursday morn in South Carolina in 1978, the sun and the stars aligned and the angels of heaven rejoiced as a new star was born: Me (well at least I think so. There's nothing better than self positive re-enforcement). He was ceremoniously given the name of the King by one of his attendant nurses. His name shall be called "Elvis Presley". No, seriously, "Elvis Presley.". I'm not making this stuff up. It is about me after all. Shuddering at the thought of being name after Elvis and envisioning the years of perpetual torture and public ridicule that would have been a certainty, my parents and my big brother had to foresight to rename me and christened me with the name of "Antonio Fabian". Now I know that sounds like the name of a Roman emperor or an Italian playboy, but isn't that a bit better than being named Elvis. I am forever indebted to them for that thoughtful act alone.
Let's fast forward to the present: I'm the father of a gorgeous two year old son named Isaac. When he was born, the heavens aligned again. So much so, the doctors in the birthing room were picking which college football team he was going to be a member of when he grows up. "Some said Florida. Some said Tennessee. Son, your father says USC, Gamecocks that is. Isaac-son, your father has spoken." He was only 9 lbs 7 oz and 22 in. long. Now he's at least 36 inches tall. Son, go make your daddy proud.
I'm also the IT Technician for a charter school in Bishopville, SC., Mary L. Dinkins Higher Learning Academy. It was founded by my sister, me, and a group of other concerned community members in 2004. The school was named after my mother, Mary L. Dinkins, who had past away a year earlier. She was a community spokesperson, who absolutely loved children and was the community mom/grandmom. You know the kind of lady all the children of neighborhood goes to play with their kids and eat up their food. Or the old lady who passes out candy to the kids (except my mother didn't pass out candy; she baked cupcakes and handed them out.) The day she passed was definitely the lowest day of my life. Aww, memories, memories. Back to our school: We have a long and checkered past with our local school board that would take a considerable amount of time to discuss. We serve kids in grades K4 through 12th grade. This past May we graduated our first 12th grade class. This was definitely an exciting day for MLD.
After the birth of my son and rather tumultuous break up with his birth mother, I really started to pack on some pounds. Probably more accurately, it was during her pregnancy that I packed on the pounds. I just did a great job of sustaining it. In January of 2011, I weigh in at 291 pounds. And I was probably even heavier before then. I wanted to just start fresh, have a new outlook on life and focus on getting back to living a healthy and active lifestyle. My goal for 2011 is to lose weight and at least get down to 235 by the end of the current year. I know that is a tough thing to do but as long as I stay focused and consistent and work hard, I think I can accomplish it. To date, I'm currently at 275 lbs so I'm well on my well.
