Update: I joined a Crossfit Box August 2013 and LOVE IT! Talk about challenging workouts! I am working out among an awesome group of people and having an amazing time. I'm doing crossfit workouts 4-5 times/week and also walks with my dog, Thor. I've recently cut back on carbs and dropped alcohol completely (except on rare date nights and vacations) in order to drop some pounds. I'm focused on healthy eating and daily exercise. I've already seen crazy improvements in many of my Olympic lifts and timed WOD's and can't wait to take it further. My goals in the next year are to complete a rope climb, move to a skinnier pull up band and hit 5 toes to bar in a row. I'd also like to see an improvement with my HSPU!
I've always been an active girl, playing outside as a child, swimming, learning to play tennis at a very young age. I was a cheerleader in high school and competed in national competitions. I was also a ranked player on the tennis team. I truly developed a love for sports and a healthy, active lifestyle in high school. I decided that I always wanted health and fitness to be a big part of my life so upon graduating high school I decided to attend Penn State as an Exercise & Sports Science major. At the time I had my sights set on Physical Therapy. I had a great four years at Penn State, stayed active, worked out at a gym consistantly but was never completely happy with my weight. I always saw myself as just a little chunky. Upon graduating PSU with a bachelor's degree I was ready to be done with school. I briefy worked as a personal trainer at a corporate fitness center and also at a tennis club. I think at this point I was a little burned out with the whole fitness thing and wanted a change. I went into retail management for the next four years. Being newly married without children I did a lot of eating out, drinking and relaxing with my husband. Excessive snacking and poor food choices lead to a steady weight gain during this period of my life. My husband & I moved to Arizona in August 2002. I believe my weight was right around 160 at that time. I became pregnant for the first time in November 2003. I was working at the time at our Animal Hospital from 7am-7pm and did not exercise at all for the entire pregnancy. I used it as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted. It was great! Or so I thought! I gained about 60 pounds! After our daughter was born I didn't do a whole lot to get the weight off other than walking around the neighborhood. I was still 20 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight when I found out I was expecting again, just 8 months later. I gained about 53 pounds during my second pregnancy which also lacked a structured exercise program. After our son was born in January 2006, I knew I had to get my butt in gear and get this weight off! It just wasn't ME that I saw in the mirror. So, 6 weeks after Tommy was born I hit the gym, hard. My weight at that time was 198 and the scale was stuck! It was unbelievably difficult and emotional for me. I could barely do a sit up. I couldn't even get into a plank position, let alone hold it for any length of time. I had a lot of work to do! And I did it! Sometimes I cried, although I wasn't a whimp. I only cried because I was embarrased that I let myself gain so much weight not because the work was hard. I loved the work and still do! Through perserverance, discipline and the will to succeed I have managed to lose 70 pounds since my first day back to the gym in March 2006. I've gained a ton of muscle, more than I ever gained while lifting in college. Consistancy is key! I feel good at this weight. I'm a strong and active mom who is setting a good example for her kids! I do have more goals to achieve and decided to train to compete in my first Figure Competition on July 24, 2010! I've always dreamed of having the physique like Monica Brant or Francisca Dennis. It takes so much discipline and hard work to get to that point and I know I can do it! So this is my journey. It's been full of ups and downs but I am extremely proud of what I have accomplished so far!

Feel strong and confident in summer clothes and bathing suits this coming summer, 2012!!

Trying to keep it clean 80% of the time. Having fun trying new, healthy recipes for myself & my family. Trying to have some fun with food. I don't want to completely deny myself of foods I love because that leads to some serious binging!!
90 minute Bikram Yoga classes 3-4 times/week. Enjoying the AZ weather taking walks/hikes when I can!
