Ready to start the 5% Fall Challenge

Today (9/20/14) a new Fall Challenge has begun. I joined the Starfish Team again. I prepared by watching my sweets these past couple of weeks, ate lots of fruit and vegetables, reduced my carb intake, and feel, overall, in great spirits and shape. To make it even more special, I had made contact with another SP member, who lives practically in my neighborhood, and who, as I found out, also had joined the 5% challenge, although a competing team. What amazed me is that she has three members on her team, who I had met in person, two of which, along with myself, belonged to a different team, altogether, for several years. We met over coffee, then took a long walk, going uphill most of the time. A great kick-off for a new challenge.

What this challenge will bring, I don't know yet. I have never reached the 5% loss in the past, although I have come close, once or twice. One thing that I am sure of is the fact that it keeps me exercising and watching what I eat. During this first week, we are counting our water intake, besides our exercise minutes.

I am happy to welcome my friend Nancy to our team.

Thank you to all the Leaders who were willing to take on the overwhelming job of setting up the teams and continue to watch over us.
We can do it!!!

My Program:
Continue to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Eat protein 2 - 3 times a day, and work on drinking more water. Work out, almost daily, but no less than 5 days a week.

Personal Information:
I was born and grew up in Germany. Curiosity prompted a visit to the US and I never left. I am married to the love of my life. We have two sons and four grand daughters. In Aug. 2011, I celebrated 50 years in the US. Hard to believe. I had total hip replacement surgery in July 2010. I love walking, skiing, golfing, swimming, and, out of necessity, strength training, to stay as active as I can.

Marlis - Yes! I was just coming in to ask you, too. Do you want to make it 8:30 again? emoticon

You are correct, Marlis, that I am following the 100 Days of Weight Loss book. A few things clicked with me right away, plus I had already read part of her previous book Life Is Hard, Food Is Easy. I had ordered both books off the internet, paid just $6.53 for both, including shipping. The Life Is Hard book came first by a number of days, so I had read a good part of it before 100 Days came. A lot of both books are things we've all known for years and I figured it would be. But I also like to get some books which sound promising in case there are 1 or 2 ideas that just hit me. These did. I recommend that you consider getting the book(s). Clearly, I was ready for these ideas and to hear it in this form, as in "when the student is ready, the teacher appears". Perhaps hearing this from both Laurel and me, it might be your time.

No doubt about it- awesome support on Spark! Yes, Susan is reading the same book. She seems so solid and motivated right now. I am having some good moments this week, too. Good for you for stopping and saving for later!

I am doing better now. It was just a one day thing apparently. George and I were taking a great walk, adding some time on to what we normally do, when my stomach suddenly got upset. I suffered with that and aches and pains for the rest of the day, but today feel back to normal.

Hope you have a great day!
