Running to Better Ourselves

Hey! I'm Abby, and am looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle and finally set myself at a constant weight. I am a runner, and would love to offer help to others, and motivate myself to live on the edge a bit more. Although I do consider myself an "athlete", I do sometimes struggle with food, specifically when it comes to portions and knowing when I'm really hungry. I hope to offer advice, but receive it as well, as we journey to become healthier, happier people.

My Goals:
Okay, edit! I AM going to run a half marathon! The date is set! April 28th, 2012!

I want to work on my overall strength. Hello biceps! I will be meeting with you soon!

I also want to strengthen my willpower in terms of avoiding "grazing" in between meals, and actually stop eating when I'm full!

My Program:
During the spring, summer, and fall, I run 5 days a week, although my schedule has slipped since the snow started falling, and the temperatures began to plummet. I also lift weights 3 days a week, and enjoy doing Pilates, Yoga, and Meditation whenever I get the chance. Now that I've signed up for the half, heck, I'm running 5 days a week!

Personal Information:
I live in Eagan, MN (a suburb of St. Paul), and love love love the beach and exploring new places! I am gluten and dairy intolerant, and enjoy cooking and finding new yummy, "normal" GF and DF recipes (my kids put extra emphasis on the "normal" part :D).

Other Information:
Some things I am passionate about include: running, writing, reading, skiing, cooking, yoga, spending time with family and friends, and public speaking. I'm also big on eating organic, whole, and unprocessed.

I probably did need the break and since tomorrow is a 12 miler, I think I am good. I do feel better today, just needed to vent and thanks for listening.

Chipotle is the one fast food place that I think I can trust plus it is SO GOOD and fast.

I wish plastic wrap was a goodie! I'd send it your way. Hope your shinsplints heal and are gone forever. They are definitely no fun! I think adding a mile a day sounds reasonable, just listen to your body. Thanks for the comments on my recent blogs! I am so ready for Vegas, both physically and mentally, I can't wait. Now, I just hope it will be drama free, but with 16 girls traveling in a pack, that'll be tough, lol.

Training has not been bad but I can't wait till its done. I have a foot that is starting to bother me and I really want to start biking, my first and true fitness love.

Oh my. I've missed you too. And your jokes that you think are lame but I love, love, love. I giggle like a crazy person on the sofa and my family rolls their eyes at me.

I'm sorry everything has been so crazy busy for you and that you don't feel so hot right now. But I am glad being sick has given you a chance to come back to us and share the butt kicking wisdom you dispense with such ease. If that's selfish of me, so be it. Phbt! (That's the phonetic equivalent of me sticking my tongue out at the world.)

I think we probably could have had a wagon burning bonfire party. I, too, have been...ahem...less than diligent with my food and food tracking. And my exercise has been...well, not what it should be. And it amuses me to no end--in a misery shared is misery halved kind of way--that you've gained two pounds. That's exactly how much my cruel, vindictive scale says I've gained over the past month. I attribute it to the petty jealousy it feels over the time I've been spending with chocolate. And brownies. And muffins. Sigh.

Running...you will rock your half. Don't get trapped in the "must be a perfect runner" place that I know is lurking in your brain. Remember that you run 8:30 miles FOR FUN. And that you completely rock running skirts. You'll do fabulous.

I've been keeping up with my running despite my half marathon set back. I'm up to nearly 12 (which I did without a run tracker app, by the way--a huge victory for me). And I just found out there is a new half scheduled in my town on May 12. That's only a week before I was supposed to run a half, but I'm a bit terrified to sign up. It's one thing to be an anonymous part of a 7500 person half. It's another to be part of a half that will have--maybe--200 people. Ugh. I have to make a decision on that relatively soon.

All right then. I've taken up all the space for comments on your page and haven't said half of what I'd like to say. So I promise another epic check in soon, soon, soon. So many hugs and welcome back. And here's hoping you drag me back on track with you!
