Getting back to My Normal

Why am I here?

I had a MI a little over a year ago from a blockage in my cornary artery. I had quite a few risk factors that I ignored because I was consumed with paying off debt and saving money.

I smoked for 35 yrs, have Raynauld's Syndrome, and never ate right. Single mother syndrome I guess. That and the "I am inmortal" philosophy. So now my son is grown and moved out and I am finally, married to a great guy. Time to start taking care of myself right? ...

So when the cardiologist said in the ER that I had just had my last cigarette, he was right. Quit smoking, took all meds like a good girl and then I started blowing up like a balloon. Tried walking at work but legs were hurting alot. Wouldn't you know----two more stents needed. Bilateral femur arteries this time. Wecome to Diffuse Vascular Disease.

Ok so still being a good girl taking all my meds and menopause is in full swing. So here I am 50 lb's later, haven't slept a full night in a year with all the night sweats.

I can not do anything about 'nature's way' but I can do something about this weight and need to get it off. It is costly both monetarily and health wise. Walking is still difficult but I force myself to do it.

I am guessing that high impact is definately out....so here I am. I don't know how to diet--never had to. I find myself in uncharters waters and I NEED Help---acceptance is the first step.

Please don't consider this a big whine (although I can understand how it could sound like that).

I am just done with all this. My docter's nurse referred me here because she knows how fed I am .

emoticon Welcome to SparkPeople!
Are you competitive by nature? One of my daily goals is to hit 100 SparkPoints. When I do that, I've not only read articles, I've interacted with other members by reading and commenting on their blogs and writing my own blog. 100 points gets me here and gets me active each and every day.

When I started, I made the commitment to workout daily and write a blog about it. On days when I don't feel like doing it, I think about the blog I need to write and I certainly do NOT want to write that I was lazy and did not work out.

Maintain your goals on your SparkPage (that's what all the goal-setting gurus write about) and make the goals public on your page. Write about it on your blog every day.

Weight loss = calorie maintenance, cardio, and strength. Calorie maintenance is every day, cardio is at least five days per week, and strength is 3 to 4 days per week. I believe you need all three for a successful weight loss and fitness program.

Above all, be consistent. Doing something toward you goal every day will pay big rewards over the next few months or a year. You can do this!

Welcome to the community of people pretty much just like you, in varying stages of their journey to better health. I've found heaps of support and inspiration here and I'm sure you will too. Even if you start by just logging in and reading articles and blogs every day, you will find yourself wanting to do more and more. Don,t be scared if you haven,t blogged before, it is easy and really worth the risk to get feedback and encouragement from other Sparkers.
Go for it, emoticon

Hi, Welcome to Spark People. emoticon

You have come to the right place. This is not just about dieting, it is about life style change and finding support from positive people. Check out the Fitness Tracker and Nutrition Tracker features. These are powerful tools to help you get on track and stay on track. Try blogging, too. It is amazing the support you get from others who are struggling with similar issues or who have overcome them.

Jump in, join some teams, and be kind to yourself. Change doesn't happen over night, but it does happen.

Welcome to the new you!

Chris
