Hi! I'm a 69 year old (Now 72) retired school teacher. I have had 2 total knee replacements. They are GREAT! I need to loose a lot of weight. I love children, pets and friends. My brother and I own an old fashion toy and gift store. He is "A-Trains" ( the boys side) and I am "Birdie's Dollhouse" (the girls side). (THIS YEAR MY DOCTOR MADE ME RETIRE DUE TO THE STRESS AND LUPUS FLARES.) I live in a very small town in Columbus, Texas, so all the children call me Miss Birdie and always stop by to say hello. They are all dear to me. (IN JULY 2011 I'LL BE MOVING TO MOORE, TEXAS. I'M BUILDING A SMALL RETIREMENT HOME NEXT TO MY NIECE'S HOME. IT HAS 40 ACRES, CHICKENS, GOATS, MY MINIATURE DONKEY NAMED MIDNIGHT STAR, LOTS OF CATS, A GARDEN AND PLENTY TO DO. I'm LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.)

Hello Blue bird .
! My name is Susie and I am one of the Co-Leaders of the Char Exercise Team .. Ann has asked me to try and help you with exercise you can do in bed .. I started out with using weights and resistance bands, because I couldn't lie on the floor and was finding it most difficult to do any sort of exercise at all ..
I used a small weight .. you can use perhaps a shoe? just something light to start with ..
Lay on your bed and lift the shoe up with both hands and get as far over your body as you can ... then gently lower the shoe down until it is level with your arms down fully extended.. try to do this several times then relax .. you can do this in sets of 3 and work up to sets of 20 or more ...
When you are good at that!! you can start to use Resistance Bands They are available at most sports stores and are very affordable ..
I tie mine to the top middle of the bed.
fold them in half and find the middle of the strap. hook that over the bar of the bed and loop the handles through ..
Lay down as if you were doing the weights take a handle in each hand and pull forwards over you head,
You should feel your abdomen contracting .. this helps to lose tummy fat, helps to loosen your back muscles and is a great work out for your arms .

A very warm welcome to our team Chair Exercise!. We are a small, but very active team.
Don't be fooled by the word Chair, this exercise can be very full on at times and definitely a great work out .
We have members that are fully fit, but just love our team .
We love to track our Nutrition and Exercise, it had been proven that Sparkies that track daily, lose far more weigh and inches than those who do not.
We are a happy helpful team, and there are many challenges,articles forums to go to for help and a chat room to help you feel at home.
If you need help and can't find it on the boards ....Please feel free to ask, We are here for you .. and will do what ever we can to help along your journey to a fitter, healthier, and happier you !

I just wanted to post a quick Welcome to the Chair Exercise TEAM. We're so glad to have you join us. Please jump in and have a good time getting healthy. This is an excited group of folks and really active team so you should be able to find all sorts of inspiration and motivation. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. There's always someone willing to help in any way possible. Don't forget to use the food/water tracker that spark people provides as well as the fitness tracker.
