MY JOURNEY TO A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

“This is the new year, the new you. You can pass through another year, coasting on cruise control. Or you can step out of your comfort zone, trying things you have never done before & make 2013 as the year that you elevate from where you are & soar high. Make it happen!”-- Pablo

It is better to define your success by the magnitude of the accomplishment, than the minutes on a clock. Fast or slow, we all make our way to the finish line with our own two feet. Celebrate every finish. ...

I was the right weight (138) all through high school. I remember it was when Twiggy was a famous model and I used to think I was fat when I looked at her! Wish I could turn back time! When I got married 38 years ago, I gained 17 pounds in the first 6 months, because I wanted to eat all the desserts and junk food my Mom would never allow us to have. Partly because Mom & Dad just didn't have the money to eat out or buy all the extra junk food.
And it just seems I never stopped gaining weight - stress eating, binge eating helped add those pounds & the scale kept creeping up! Add lots of fast food, because too busy or tired to cook after working all day and driving 2 hours round trip to and from work in those days.
Now I reach for fruit and vegetables instead of junk food! It took awhile I am so proud of myself -it is a miracle I can do that! But, I still have an occasional treat once in awhile, but my trigger foods like Doritos, I allow a very small one serving bag at a time!

I have learned so many things and have lost 39 pounds and 50 inches since joining! Have met so many special supportive friends from all over the world here too. It is an informative website and full of so many good tips for how to eat healthy and exercise. I have tracked my food daily since the beginning and most days stay within my calorie range. I exercise everyday and have went from walking a few blocks to 4 1/2 miles in one day! Although I have hit a few plateaus off and on, I still get inspired to keep going by visiting the site 28 months later (perfect attendance for 26 months in a row).
I love this website and want to help as many as I can! I hope to be with it for years to come, even after I reach my goal weight.
Thanks to all the support of my sparkfriends, I feel I can keep going day after day with their help! I truly feel I have hope for the future! I have never felt better in my life! 2013 will be even better-just wait and see!
We are going to kick those pounds to the curb! Whoohoo!!

Thanks for stopping by my page........ Connie

Thanks for reading and commenting on my "Yoga...Really???" blog emoticon I'm mainly doing it to support Rod and try to encourage him to do the exercises for his back. I have arthritis pretty badly in my neck and also in my knees and lower back so I have to adapt a lot of the poses. I discovered early on that yoga isn't very arthritis friendly.

For some reason I've had trouble with the SparkPeople site doubling things a LOT, comments and goodies especially. I can't delete the duplicate, it has to be done by the person who's page it's on so please delete this one! I once had ONE massage goodie show up FIVE times on the person's page when I hit the "give goodie" button. The worst thing was losing all those goodie points because of the site error, plus it looked a little strange that I would give 5 massages to someone.

Sounds like you have great opportunities to get great produce at reasonable prices without the Bountiful Baskets. That's great. There is one roadside stand that sells things from their farm an hour away in Deming during the summer. Our grocery stores don't use local produce. We have one farmer's market locally in the summer (just started last week) on Saturday mornings but they don't have a lot of selection yet. Some of the local stuff is not ready yet. It's a small one. We are kind of limited so I'm really enjoying this for a change.

Connie, thanks so much for the green tea. I could use one about now. This health thing is not much fun. And the irony is that all my labs and tests and numbers show me to be in excellent health. So I've been sent to a GYN/oncologist to see what's going on. And as a consolation prize my Gastro Gal tells me I get my own private colonoscopy. Could this get any weirder? emoticon
