Hi, I'm Lauren. I want to be strong, I want to be healthy, I want to be vibrant! I am working towards my PhD, and I currently live in one of the greatest cities in the world ~ Istanbul, Turkey. Living in a foreign countries brings many challenges, and staying healthy is certainly one of them. I am trying to tailor my fitness and eating so I can enjoy this amazing city, and meet my Spark goals. I approach every day and every challenge here with a smile. I love cooking, and food in general. I need to change my relationship with food so that I enjoy it, but not turn it for comfort. I am a vegetarian, and have been most of my life. Luckily, I get to buy local, in-season fruits and veggies all year at an amazing street bazaar (basically, a farmer's market on steroids). Sadly, my access to non local foods is scarce and expensive - I miss celery, asparagus, sweet potatoes, limes, avocados, peanut butter, and Greek yogurt. I am a runner. It has only been 2 months. I am incredibly slow. But 3 times a week, I put on my shoes and pound the pavement. I am totally becoming addicted to runner's high/post-workout endorphins. I never thought the day would come :) I am training for my first race, an 8k scheduled for Nov. 11, 2012.

My Program:
~ Being a conscious eater, eating nutrient rich calories ~ meat- free ~ Water. Lots. Everyday. ~ Cardio 6-7 days a week ~ Running (finished C25K Sept. 2012) ~ Cross-training with elliptical, bike, and swimming ~ the 30 Day Shred ~ Strength Training 3 days a week, following New Rules of Lifting for Women program ~ Going for a walk everyday. ~ Pilates twice a week ~ Stretching with a foam roller

~ When I hit even- numbered weights, download a new cardio song from Amazon (since most of my other rewards happen on odd-numbered pounds) So far, I have bought: - Till the World Ends, Britney Spears - E.T., Katy Perry - Tubthumping, Chumbawumba 165: Sports bra and underwear - already bought and wrapped in a pretty package! 163: (no longer "obese" BMI) - A new haircut (and probably some new hair products) 159: New UnderArmour shirt (already bought), buy CurlJunkie hair samples 155: new bathing suit and a new workout shirt (already bought) 149: New workout pants 145 TBD 139 TBD 136: (no longer "overweight" BMI) - cute heels (do they stop hurting so much at this point?) ~ goal weight: Lots of Shopping!
