Off to a New Year's party (Dec. 31, 2008). Don't I look like a happy camper?

Yiche12's journey

On April 30, 2015, I will have been six years on Spark People. I did start out at 183.7 lbs in 2009 and am presently 156.4 lbs. Over the years, Spark People has helped me with the following:

- I have become more aware of the importance of eating well and leaving junk food out of my diet.
- Exercise has become a routine for me.
- The need to sleep a minimum of seven to eight hours a night.
- The importance of staying active online because I am positive that I ...

- I have become more aware of the importance of eating well and leaving junk food out of my diet.
- Exercise has become a routine for me.
- The need to sleep a minimum of seven to eight hours a night.
- The importance of staying active online because I am positive that I would have regained my weight if I had not continued on SP.
- The importance of food tracking on a daily basis.
- Soft drinks are no longer drunk in the household.
- Desserts are made for guests only and we don't miss it.
etc. (the list goes on)

Like many of you, I have had ups and downs over the course of this journey. I am presently overweight as per the BMI scale and I will continue my journey to reach my healthy weight.

The truth is that with the weight that I 'have' lost, I have found my self-esteem again and my willingness to continue this struggle. I even look forward to going out more and dressing up again because I can actually look better in the clothes that I have. That is a nice feeling... Truly, I will not go upwards again as I know what that feels like. Yes, with the weight on, I could still do a lot but my cholesterol was high and my BMI was on the obese side -- who's kidding who here?

I am 66 y.o. and never did envision myself being a heavy senior citizen. Looking at my December 2008 picture beside, it was obvious to me that it was time that I got myself moving again and by doing so, it has proven to be beneficial all-round.

Thank you for deciding to come and visit my page today, and to read my "The Positive Side of Discouragement" blog! I have reached a plateau on my weight loss again, and I have been trying to understand and get past it.

I sometimes have difficulty facing Monday mornings because I know it's the start of a whole week ahead, but the last few weeks have seen no perceived progress, and I was beginning to become quite discouraged. As the week wore on, I thought others might be having the same difficulty, too - and so as I mulled things over in my head this blog evolved.

Thanks for all your positive feedback on this blog! I do hope that whenever you are feeling discouraged, you'll remember to stop and search for the "positive side of your discouragement".

I am so happy you found it helpful and worthwhile, and that it helped to put some things into perspective for you too, and gave you a new perspective - along with a positive spin on your day to help you finish your week with renewed vigor and spirit!

Thank you very much. I have been away from SP for too long, I am very happy to be back.
