I'm from S.E. Michigan and joined SP on April 12, 2010. I have been looking for a way to track nutritional, fitness and other information including goals and I believe the SparkPeople site is the best site out there!

Update 9-30-11: Lost 49 lbs, made excuse after excuse, stopped thinking about it, and gained 47 lbs. The price I am paying is that I was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. It runs in my family (both Type 1 and Type 2) however I am 100% positive my poor eating habits and yo-yo dieting have been the primary contributor to the diabetes Type 2 diagnosis.

So, please wish me luck in my "here I go again" efforts. Not that I can do it (I can and I have, unfortunately done it many, many times) but that I can stick to it for life, because this IS my life.

"If I had to select one quality, one personal characteristic that I regard as being most highly correlated with success, whatever the field, I would pick the trait of persistence. Determination.
The will to endure to the end, to get knocked down seventy times and get up off the floor saying. "Here comes number seventy-one!"

OMG, your story sounds so much like mine. I started the ETL program the day I got the Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. I stuck to it for 8 months and had lost 80+ pounds. Do not even ask me what happened, but here I am, another 10 months later and I have gained it ALL back. I'm going to an endocrinologist in a few weeks to have everything checked out as even though I haven't been eating well or sticking to the program, I can't believe I've gained that much weight back in that short a time frame. So I just want to make sure everything is on track from hormonal/endocrine system, but I'm working my way back to being vegan. Surprising (to me) I have found ditching the meat hasn't bothered me a bit, it's the dairy and eggs I've had a hard time with...but, I know I feel better when I'm vegan so I need to stop focusing on food and start focusing on being healthy and feeling good.

Hey I can't tell you how many times I said "Here I go again" Believe me your not alone in this journey. Tried and failed so many times. But once I got the diagnosis of diabetes I freaked. Starting the day I left the Dr's office. And I have been now living off good foods for over a month. I see him in another two and then I weigh in. I have never been so sure about a plan as I am this. AND I am doing exercise I walk at least a mile a day, was going to work in a mile and a half, but I need to give myself just a bit longer, I never did this before, I usually lasted 5 min, and I was done. Anyway Noooooooo the kitty in the picture is from an Email someone sent me several years ago, I just loved it, and it was so me!! Your green drink sounds a bit like the one I do with the Nutri bullet, but I haven't used a soy milk or anything just veges fruits, either nuts or flaxseed. I would like to try the kale chips, they are too expensive in the health food store, and I think you get 4 to a bag! lol Anyway I will add you as a friend. Love the info on anything new to try. I am going to be doing ETL 6 week plan starting the 15th of May. MJ

BTW I loveeee your dogs, they are beautiful.

“The difference between stepping stones and stumbling blocks is not in the event itself but how you think about it and what you do after it.
Every failure and setback can become part of your success or an excuse for quitting or failing.
People who develop the discipline of positivity are both happier and more successful. "
