Our Tomatoes were on the other side of the Sunflowers. Last year we didn't get as many flowers due to the Gopher, but we think he is gone, so this year I have high hopes. We need to buy another Apricot tree, as the Gopher killed that too. 1 day ago
I would be lost without AllAboutBirds.com, and other sites like it. There are birds here we don't see as often, and I was always forgetting the name. Like the Cactus Wren. For a long time I was only seeing the Wren now and then. They are showing up more in the hills now.
We used to have a Lady Banks Rose Bush. We loved it. We had it for a few years. I agree, I wish it would bloom longer, but the foliage stays real nice, and we get hot here in the summer. It does get to be a good size, and started growing over our block wall. Our next door neighbors decided to trim it, rather then ask us to do it. He waited until we left, then he cut it way back..On our side of the yard. Killed half of the plant. I just took it out. I felt bad though because the Sparrows loved the plant. The neighbor has moved so I told Dennis I would love to get another one. Now that you mentioned it, I really want one lol. I love our Sparrows and Finches so try to keep plants around for them too.
I had to look up the Pearly Gates. Your yard is going to be beautiful. Love the rose bush. I read this info on the plant, not sure if you knew. In winter, when the cupboard is bare, fruit-eaters like Cardinals, Thrushes, Waxwings and Mockingbirds will eat its hips, which are high in vitamin C. That sounds nice. We don't have Cardinals or Waxwings where I live, but we do get Thrushes now and then, and Mockingbirds are here year round. I can't wait to see pics of your yard. End of April (when frost is gone) I am going to buy another Lady Banks. We're also thinking of getting a couple more rose bushes for the west side of our yard. And of course there will be plenty of Sunflowers! Hope you're feeling better.
