I am a 50+ professional that knows volumes of knowlege about diets, calorie counts, and nutritional values yet I am morbidly obese. I have tried most every diet imaginable but I lose my focus quickly and fail. I named my page Turtletalk because I am a very slow loser.

Summer 2014 challenge: I can't believe that it is time to update my sparkpage again. Pretty much everything I have said for the past four years still holds true although I am 38 pounds thinner. For this 5% challenge I am going to concentrate on tracking all food every day (no forgetting the junk) and on getting more consistent with my strength training. I pretty much have the 10,000+ steps per day ingrained so I need to continue it and move on to something a bit more physically challenging. I have also gotten lazy about blogging so I am going to commit to blogging at least once per week throughout this challenge.


Fall 2013 5% Challenge - I will walk at least 560,000 steps during the 56 days of the challenge in addition to strenth training at least 24 days of the challenge. I will accurately track my food and stay within 1200-1500 calories. On my Team page I will record my daily exercise and Living the Good Life Points, and on Saturdays I will weigh in and record it. I will check in with my team and leave a comments on the Discussion Board as I have time. I will read and comment on blogs as I have time. This go round I am going to be an extra leader so I hope I can meet the team's expectation. I have done several of these 5% challenges and I usually contribute good numbers in everything but weigh tloss. I try to remind myself that I control how well I follow the plan but the actual weight loss is out of my hands.

February 2013 update: I have regained 18 pounds of the 39 previously lost. January 1 saw me back tracking my food and using fitbit to count my steps.


July 8, 2011 Update - I am one pound away from my 40 pound trophy but my weight loss has slowed down tremendously. I have just signed up for two new challenges to re-ignite my spark. One challenge is a 6 month challenge on the 50 pound challenge team and the second challenge is the supper 5% challenge. I am so much more comfortable and active with these 39 pounds gone that I can hardly wait to see what it will feel like if I can get down another 11 pounds. When I hit my original goal of 170 I will probably re-evaluate because that will still leave me "overweight."
September 2011 - Okay, I didn't do so hot on my Summer challenge. I have a new 8 week challenge starting this week so I believe that the second time is a charm. My goal for this challenge is to lose 9 pounds. I will do it by staying within my calorie range every day and by commiting to at least 400 minutes of exercise per week. If I meet those two marks every day then I won't feel so bad if I don't meet my weight loss goals.
